Beside him a young man in white dhoti with gold border and white shawl pours a liquid from a silver vessel into a small brick fire pit with an open flame. Behind them a deity murti is garlanded with yellow and orange flowers under a gold arch, with brass lamps and offerings. Seated at right, a woman in orange holds a small child in teal, and a man in white with a flower garland watches. Other seated devotees in white with flower garlands sit near the fire, and bananas and brass vessels rest on the floor at left.2011-11-06November 29 20112011-11-29A homa ceremony on a red cloth in an indoor hall, with a rectangular fire pit built of brick and white-painted edges, and a wooden ladle and offerings of yellow powder and flowers. A seated priest in white clothes with a yellow shawl sits at left, while a man in white dhoti and a woman in a blue sari with gold bangles kneel at right tending the offerings. Behind them a framed portrait with pink and red garlands sits above a small deity murti set on a gold-bordered altar draped in orange cloth, flanked by potted green plants.A shirtless man in a white dhoti with white sacred markings on his arms and shoulders bends forward over a gold tray. His hand rests on a gold lingam-shaped object with a red flower and petals on the tray, which sits on a red cushioned stand with pink jewels. Behind him, a woman in an orange sari with hands folded in namaskar stands before a gold deity statue and a golden cloth-draped stand. Another person in orange clothing stands further back against red drapes. The scene suggests a ritual abhishekam-style offering.2019-03-17December 16 20102010-12-16A homa or fire ritual on an orange-red floor before a red wall with a gold carved panel. Four people sit in front of a brick fire pit where flames rise. On the left, a bald man in a grey shirt and a woman in a red and green sari with white jasmine garland sit with hands extended toward the fire. Beside them, a bald man wears a white dhoti and white shawl with a garland. On the right, a priest in a white dhoti with a gold-bordered yellow cloth and gold necklace feeds the fire with his hand extended, while another priest in white with rudraksha mala watches. Brass vessels, a small red cloth bundle and a silver plate of offerings sit near the fire.2010-12-23January 22 20142014-01-22February 09 20122012-02-09Two men in white dhotis sit cross-legged on an orange-tinted floor at a ritual homa or fire ceremony. The man on the left, with a microphone before him, holds his hands in a mudra and chants, wearing a red-and-white rudraksha mala. The man on the right, bald and bespectacled with his palms joined in namaskar, wears a gold-bordered white dhoti and a long ornate gold necklace. A brass fire vessel with a lit flame sits between them, with banana, apple, a silver tray, brass lamps and kumkum-marked offerings nearby. Standing figures in white dhotis appear in the background. Single-person identity is not established by appearance cues in this frame.2012-02-09December 28 20112011-12-28A photograph of an indoor ritual in a tiled room with a window of ornate grille behind. A seated figure on the left wears a red and white turban-style headdress, a saffron and orange robe, a pink and white flower garland with gold-toned beads, and bangles, and holds a tall silver ritual rod or stand. Several young men in saffron and orange robes with white forehead markings sit or stand around her. In the foreground, a seated man in white kurta with folded hands and a red-orange garland performs a flame ritual, holding a lit lamp or camphor flame, while a woman in a cream sari with a white flower in her hair offers a flame to a floral arrangement on the floor. Other devotees in white and blue sit with folded hands along the right edge, and more people stand in white in the background. Marigold and rose petals are scattered on the floor. The figure on the left is a candidate for a person based on her distinctive headdress, saffron robe and garlands, but her appearance is not certain enough to confirm.2013-06-23 +2 copies
