A photograph of an outdoor ritual at a decorated shrine during a festival procession. Two bronze deity murtis are dressed with white and red garlands, seated on a golden ratha with carved lions and a red cloth backdrop. In front, a framed portrait shows a figure seated on a white throne with a red backdrop, set on the steps. A man in orange robes and a bare upper body holds a brass lamp and a tray of pink flower petals and performs aarti. Another man in orange stands with folded hands, and a man in white dhoti with a yellow shawl stands on the left. Sugarcane stalks and a red canopy with tassels frame the scene, and a painted sign in Tamil lies at the base.2009-01-14Outdoor photograph of a decorated stepped platform with a golden-yellow framed portrait of a seated man in white robes on a red cushioned throne, labelled as a portrait, set beside two carved deity figures adorned with garlands. A devotee in orange robes stands at the steps holding a brass plate with petals and a lit oil lamp, while another in orange with a white cloth faces the platform with hands folded. Sugarcane stalks, a red canopy with tassels, orange flags and marigold garlands frame the scene. Background shows a thatched wall and houses. The portrait is a depiction on the altar, not a person physically present, so no in-person figure is identified.2009-01-14December 23 20092009-12-23A photograph of an outdoor street shrine during a festival. Two sugarcane stalks are tied at the corners of a shrine structure with carved stone lions and a red canopy. At centre, a deity murti with garlands and a crown sits in front of a red cloth. Below, a raised step holds a tray of pink petals and a steel vessel. A framed portrait shows a seated man in white on a red-cushioned throne; it is a printed picture, not a physical person. Two people in saffron robes stand on the right: one kneels to offer petals from a tray, the other faces the shrine. On the left, men in white dhotis and yellow shawls stand under a red and yellow umbrella with tassels. A bystander in a brown shirt stands far right. A black banner with white Tamil text lies at the base.2009-01-14January 12 20092009-01-12December 23 20082008-12-23January 21 20092009-01-21December 28 20082008-12-28 +1 copiesDecember 21 20112011-12-21December 21 20112011-12-21Outdoor stage event under a white tent with a red stage carpet and a red banner reading Nithyananda in Tamil script. A man in white shirt and white dhoti stands at left and reaches toward a tall brass lamp decorated with white jasmine garlands and red flowers. Beside him an orange-robed man wearing an orange turban and rudraksha mala holds his hands together. On the right a barefoot man in orange robes with long hair lights or tends the lamp with his hands, while a man in white holds a sash behind him. Behind them stand a woman in white and an orange-robed attendant near a side table with flower offerings. Palm trees and a thatched hut are visible beyond the stage, and cooling units and potted plants sit along the edge.2010-02-18A procession on an open street lined with palm trees and colourful bunting. In the centre, a smiling man wears an orange turban, orange robe, a long rudraksha mala and a red bindi, and raises one hand in greeting. He has long swept-back hair and a distinctive saffron ensemble, a person by appearance. Beside him a younger man in orange with long hair holds a brass plate of flower petals and rice. Around them devotees in white dhotis and shirts press forward with folded hands, and an officer in a khaki uniform stands behind. Behind the crowd are a golden palanquin and a decorated ratha with red-and-gold canopies and flags. A small poster with a saffron-robed portrait hangs on a pole at left. Multiple people are visible, roughly 20 or more.2010-02-18
