Most wear orange and saffron robes, while several women wear maroon and red saris and others wear white dhoti-style or white sari clothing. Two tall flag poles with orange and yellow banners stand at left. In the foreground a pink and purple cloth is spread with a brass plate, a small kalasha with a lit oil lamp, banana fruit, a flame in a lamp, and flower offerings and sweets on leaf plates. A plastic bucket and a concrete basin sit in the foreground.2016-01-16January 16 20162016-01-16April 24 20132013-04-24Night photograph of a Mattu Pongal ritual at an outdoor ashram courtyard. Garlanded cows with flower and marigold garlands and kumkum marks are being worshipped by a man in white kneeling at left. Behind them, several saffron-robed sannyasis stand on a striped mat holding brass plates of bananas and offerings. A central figure in a brown-maroon robe wears a long white flower garland, rudraksha malas and vibhuti on his forehead, with hands folded. A figure in saffron with a bare back stands at right, raising hands. A striped canopy and an oil lamp flame glow in the background, and a colourful kolam decorates the floor.2018-01-15Night procession at a temple, lit by a flaming torch and warm lamps on an ornate, brightly decorated chariot-style shrine at right. Around him, devotees in white and pink clothes raise their hands in joyful chant; a woman in a gold-patterned sari and a woman in an orange shawl walk beside. A smiling man in an orange robe stands at right foreground. A saffron triangular flag on a pole rises behind the group.2011-12-05November 19 20152015-11-19Outdoor dusk ritual in a palm-lined courtyard at night. On the left, a tall lit oil lamp stands on a white pedestal beside an orange-red stepped platform. A white-clad figure and several monks in saffron robes tend a small table with offerings and burning lamps. A line of devotees stands in a row on the right: women in orange and white saris with hands folded in anjali, and men in white dhotis with yellow shawls. Round kolam-like patterns are drawn in the dirt in front of the line. The scene reads as a deepam lamp-lighting for Karthikai Deepam.2010-11-21November 05 20132013-11-05Outdoor evening scene at dusk beneath dark palm trees, with a large group of people standing in a loose semicircle on bare earth. Many women wear orange, red-bordered white, and yellow saris, while men wear white dhotis and shirts, saffron robes, and tan or pink shirts. Several people press their palms together in prayer. On the left, a man in saffron robes with a shaved head stands near a figure in orange robes, and a drum is visible in the middle of the group. Small stone figures and green shrubs line the ground at the left. Several people are visible in the background. The orange-robed figure on the left has a shaved head and a short beard, which does not meet the cue threshold for identification, so no identification is made.2010-11-21
