July 08 20092009-07-08July 08 20092009-07-08Outdoor temple scene at a copper dwajastambham (flagpole) with a small deity figure in a niche at its base, decorated with marigold, jasmine and yellow garlands and bundled straw. Two men in saffron-orange robes attend it: a man in orange kneels at left holding a metal tray, while a standing man at right wears an orange sleeveless top and orange dhoti and holds a small bundle of flowers. Palm fronds and a pale sky are behind. Consistent with a flagpole consecration ritual, though the flagpole's identity is not stated in the image.2009-07-08Outdoor temple ritual beside a tall copper dwajastambha (flagpole) wrapped with cord and decorated with a small shrine at its base. The shrine holds a small deity murti garlanded with marigolds and jasmine, with yellow, red and white flower garlands draped down its sides and grass bundles tied to the base. On the right, a man in orange-saffron robes with a red vibhuti mark rings a brass handbell. In the lower left, a second man in orange robes kneels at the base of the flagpole, reaching toward the offerings. Palm trees and a pale sky frame the scene.2009-07-08Outdoor ritual at the base of a tall polished copper dwajastambha (flagstaff) being raised at a temple. The copper pillar is wrapped with rope and banded with ornate rings, and its base shrine holds a small deity murti framed by garlands of marigolds, white jasmine and yellow blooms, with grass brooms tied at the sides. A man kneels at lower left in orange robes, holding a brass plate of offerings up toward the flagstaff. At right, a figure in orange-red robes stands looking upward, holding a small bunch of flowers. Palm fronds and an overcast sky frame the scene.2009-07-08A photograph of a copper dwajastambha (flagstaff) being raised at a temple, with a tall copper pole wrapped in rope and set on a decorated base garlanded with white jasmine, yellow and red flower strands and orange marigold garlands. A man in orange robes and a red sleeveless undergarment stands on a raised platform, hand raised, pulling the rope that guides the pole; a second man in orange stands behind him at right. Coconut palms and an overcast sky frame the scene, with a dark stone deity murti partly visible behind the base.2009-07-08A photograph of a man in an orange saffron robe bowing forward to touch his forehead to a tall copper flagstaff (dhvajastambha) standing on a white stone base. He wears long dark hair swept back, a red, yellow and white marigold garland, and rudraksha-style beads around his neck. The copper pole is wrapped with braided rope and decorated with white and red-yellow flower garlands and a wheat-like bundle at its base. Coconut palms and blue sky form the background, and an orange cord hangs down the left side with a small brass plate of offerings at the bottom left.2010-02-12July 08 20092009-07-08Two men in saffron-orange robes stand on a white stone platform beside a tall copper dhwajastambha flagstaff. The flagstaff rests on an ornate copper base with a small shrine niche holding a seated deity figure, draped with white jasmine and red flower garlands. The taller man, with long swept-back hair and a gold necklace over a white-and-red garland, reaches up to touch the copper pillar. The shorter man beside him, in an orange dhoti and shawl with maroon borders, holds a small brass vessel. Scattered flower petals lie on the platform and palm trees stand behind.2010-07-26July 26 20102010-07-26February 23 20152015-02-23A tall polished copper flagstaff, banded with ornamental rims and wrapped with a dark braided cord, rises against a white sky. A man in an orange sleeveless top and orange shawl grips a rope with both hands and looks upward, his long dark hair swept back. Yellow and purple marigold garlands hang on the pole's base, which has a small bronze relief of a seated figure. In the lower foreground, a shaved-headed man in white dhoti and cloth with maroon borders is partly visible, pulling on a rope. The scene suggests a flag-raising at an outdoor ceremony.2010-09-13
