At centre, a man with long dark hair wearing an orange saffron robe and a large pink-and-red flower garland stands with palms pressed together in namaste. Two large ornate umbrellas with red, gold and blue embroidered panels, green floral motifs and gold fringe are held over the procession by men in white shirts and white dhotis, one holding a long pole. Around them, devotees in white clothes and orange shawls, some with rudraksha malas and one with a sandalwood-and-kumkum forehead mark, walk closely together. Palm fronds and a strung garland of leaves hang overhead, with a thatched shelter behind. The page title and date place the event in Salem, but no identity is established from appearance. The orange-robed garlanded man has long hair and no crown or ceremonial gold, so the appearance cues are insufficient.2006-11-13A photograph of an outdoor procession on a village road. At centre, a man with long dark hair, wearing a saffron/orange robe and a large red-pink flower garland, stands with palms pressed together in anjali. Around him are men in white dhotis and white shirts, some with orange or saffron shawls over their shoulders, and one man on the left wears a wristwatch and holds a tall pole. Two large ornate umbrellas with red, gold and yellow panels embroidered with blue and green floral motifs and a bird emblem frame the scene, and a third red-and-green canopy with tassels stands behind. Palm trees and a leafy tree are visible in the background, and a man at right wears a rudraksha mala and a forehead mark.2006-11-13Outdoor procession in a dense crowd of devotees beneath a row of decorated umbrellas in pink, yellow, teal and blue with beaded fringe. At centre, a bearded man in a rust-brown robe, orange-red turban and a large gold necklace over a garland of pink flowers holds a ceremonial staff and a mirror-like fan. Around him, a bare-chested man with rudraksha beads and a white dhoti with gold border walks, and attendants in saffron and white stand near. Devotees with raised hands surround the group, and trees and a parked car appear behind.2016-12-03August 27 20162016-08-27A festival procession moves along a paved path through a crowd, shaded by ornate umbrellas with pink, yellow, blue and gold fringed canopies. A bearded man in a red-brown shawl and dhoti stands at the centre, wearing a thick gold necklace, a large rudraksha-style mala with a white floral garland, and a red-orange turban, holding a tall ceremonial staff. Around him, men in white dhotis and orange cloths, and bare-chested attendants with sandalwood markings, walk alongside devotees, while people in pink and orange clothing and children crowd the scene.2016-12-03January 01 20092009-01-01January 12 20072007-01-12Outdoor procession in daylight with several large red and yellow ceremonial umbrellas fringed with colourful tassels held aloft by men in white shirts and white dhotis. At the centre, a man in saffron-orange robes with a red tilak on his forehead and a long garland of yellow and orange flowers stands with palms pressed together in greeting, smiling. Beside him, a bearded man in orange robes walks, and a tall ornamental trident-like staff rises among other saffron-clad sannyasis carrying silver staffs. On the left, a young woman in orange sari carries a large white cotton-like ceremonial fan or offering. Behind them, many people in white and saffron move along a dusty path with a tree line and small buildings in the background.2007-12-22January 01 20092009-01-01
