April 29 20132013-04-29Night ritual photograph of six shaven-headed male priests in saffron and rust-red dhotis with gold-bordered cloth, several wearing rudraksha and beaded malas and sandalwood tripundra marks. Several hold brass vessels, a brass lamp with a flame, and incense sticks; one priest on the right reads from an open book while another holds a small handbell. A dark garden with flowering shrubs is behind them. Another priest on the left in orange holds a brass plate of offerings. The scene suggests a puja performed at night. No one is identified as a person.2013-04-29Night procession of shaven-headed men in rust-red and saffron-bordered dhotis with gold-edged cloth, many wearing long rudraksha and bead malas. Three men in devotional clothing face the sculptures: the central figure, seen from behind with a bare shaved head and bare shoulders, wears a rust-red garment with gold-bordered sash and a sacred thread over the shoulder; the two on the right wear white dhotis with gold borders and shaved heads. The man in white at centre holds a lit oil lamp flame in his hand, performing an aarti-style offering to the sculptures. Loose stones and a small plant are at their feet.2014-10-03Evening puja at an outdoor shrine lit by night. Five priests in saffron, orange and maroon dhoti-style garments with rudraksha malas and gold chains stand in a row. The priest on the right raises a lit oil lamp in his right hand while holding an open book; other priests hold silver plates and small silver vessels with offerings. Horizontal white tilak marks show on their foreheads and arms. Behind them, ornately dressed deity murtis in orange and red garments with garlands stand before a red draped backdrop. Smoke rises from the lamp. Two seated devotees are partly visible at the lower edge.2013-04-29Night outdoor photograph of a crowd of devotees in maroon and rust-coloured dhotis and saris with yellow borders, many with white and red tilak on their foreheads. A man in the centre-left wears a white and red floral garland and folds his hands in prayer. Silver vessels, a brass pot and a textile cloth sit on the ground in front, with a camera on a tripod nearby. The scene appears to be a puja or aarti at an open-air shrine.2015-02-05
