Thondaimandala Aadheenam

Oldest Shaivite Mutt

Thondaimandala Aadheenam is one of the oldest Shaivite Mutts (monasteries), established originally by Mahasadashiva Himself, in the form of Adi Nathar, 5000 years ago. The Thondaimandala Aadheenam is headed by a spiritual leader belonging to the monastic order called the ‘Maha Sannidhanam’. This order is committed to upholding the traditions of that particular aadheenam, and become part of an unbroken lineage of Hindu Sanyasis (monks) who are the caretakers of numerous Shiva temples coming under the wing of that aadheenam. The Thondaimandala aadheenam has under it 15 Shiva temples located in the Thondaimandala and Kanchipuram regions.
