Ashtanga Yoga 3: Patanjali Yoga Sutras 80 - Nithyananda Morning Satsang 11 Dec 2010

Description:

" Let me give my own experiences on this Ashtaanga Yoga" - begins Paramahamsa Nithyananda on His Patanjali Yoga Series with 80th Sutra , chapter 2, verse 29 of the Sadhana Pada - "Yama Niyama Asana Pranaayama Pratyahara Dharana Dhyana Samadhayah astau angani" - translating to "Yama, Niyama,, Asana, Pranaayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi, are the 8 limbs of Yoga."

Today's topic is "Yoga - Expression of Bliss". Starting the sutras by giving the sutra meaning from the commentaries of Swami Vivekananda, Swami Prabhavananda and Swami Satchidananda, Living Enlightened Master and Rare Incarnation, Avatar - Paramahamsa Nithyananda takes us deeper into the 8 limbs of the Yoga as described by Patanjali, a great Siddha Purusha and the greatest incarnations on the planet.

Nobody except Patanjali is able to give such a logical scientific step-by-step method to enlightenment. In fact, anybody after Patanjali is a follower of Patanjali. All the 8 limbs of yoga are not 8 steps but 8 parts that need to simultaneously happen in us.

Nithyananda declares, "I am not only giving you the technical knowledge of the Ashtanga Yoga- the 8 limbs of Yoga, but I am giving you the practical technology also, the technique."

Starting with Yama, the basic thing in the spiritual practice is to align your actions with the understanding you have about life, about cosmos, about God, about the world, about humanity. This is Yama.

Then comes Niyama -- increase your understanding to the higher and higher level. Raise the level of your understanding of these basic truths through the right ideas. Sadhana and receiving the right knowledge these are the Niyama.

Asana -- Preparing your bio-memory for the intense spiritual experience and breakthrough in your consciousness. When the deeper strands of DNA is awakened, nonmechanical parts of the brain are awakened, your body should be capable of holding and radiating it. Pranayama -- The technology of awakening and purifying your bioenergy is Pranayama.

Then Pratyahara -- Withdrawing your awareness from too many objects. It exactly means withdrawal.

Dharana -- Centering that awareness on one object. If your awareness is not centered on yourself, you will be continuously attacked by too many unnecessary fears. Dharana is responsible for fearlessness.

Dhyana means Pure Awareness -- the restful awareness.

Samadhi means became consciousness. The awareness is settled in your bio memory.

December 11, 2010, Saturday Prayer. Welcome. Today’s subject for morning satsang is Yoga expression of bliss! 80th sutra, 2nd chapter 29th verse – Yama niyama aasana praanayama p samadhyaha ashtau angaani. In yesterday’s sutra he speaks about the 8 limbs of yoga. Heis now describing the 8 limbs Vivekananda – are the 8 limbs of yoga Satchitananda - niyama – observance, aasana praanayaama pratyahaara – Prabhavananda – 8 limbs of yoga are the various forms of I will try to give my own experience on this ashta anga. Iyama means aligning your actions with your understandings. First thing you need to do whatever understandings you have about life, align your actions with those understandings. I am giving you the practical technology, technique for this iyama, niyama and all these practices. Please understand, not only I am giving you technical knowledge I am giving you the technique also. Iyama – aligning your actions with the understandings you have. The basic thing in the spiritual practice is to align your actions with the understanding you have about life, about cosmos, about God, about world, about humanity. Align your actions along with the understand or in tune with the understand. This is iyama. Then comes niyama – increase your understanding to the higher and higher level. Raise the level of your understanding of these basic truths through the right ideas. Saadhana and receiving the right knowledge these are the niyama. Aasana – preparing your bio memory for the intense spiritual experience and break through in your consciousness. When the deeper strands of DNA is awakened, non mechanical parts of the brain are awakened, your body should be capable of holding and radiating it. Now I am seeing the jumping is reducing and the experience is becoming more and more deep now. Ramakrishna says very beautifully in a wedding, in the beginning lot of talk happens. The moment people sit down for eating more than 60% noise is reduced. The moment food is served, 80% noise is reduced. After the whole crowd starts eating, no noise is heard. Only the sound of chewing of food remains! Same way only first few days of levitation and rolling was there. Now the experience is not stopped but it has become more intense and moving your very consciousness. So it is settling in your system. Aasana is required to settle the experience in your system. If aasana is not done you will take spiritual experience and master for granted. It is required to experience the inner joy continuously. Without it the conscious experience which you had will be forgotten in your bio memory within few months. With aasana it will stay there forever. Praanaayaama – blowing your kundalini. There are 2 ways either you blow it or I blow it ☺ there is a beautiful verse sung by a siddha – the fire in the root center kundalini – please show me the way of awakening that with the air – through the praana. Technology of awakening and purifying your bio energy is Praanaayaama. Then pratyahaara – withdrawing your awareness from too many objects. It exactly means withdrawal. Dhaarana – centering that awareness on one object. If your awareness is not centred on yourself, you will be continuously attacked by too many unnecessary fears. I am really telling you. I was really shocked when I started travelling in western countries to see the amount of fear they carry about the terrorist attacks. In Mumbai, evening attack goes on some 200 people are dead. Next day morning that road is busy back to its business. Every day somewhere or the other some blast goes on here and there. You will not see regular life does not get disturbed. I was shocked how the whole country shivers in the west. The biggest problem for terrorists is whatever they do the Indian consciousness is unshaken. I have really seen so many people dropping from our programs if there is some red alert in the city. Here it is not so. Even now few days before there was a bomb blast in the Ganga Aarati. We are going to Varanasi on January 3rd. not a single Indian withdrew registration. Lot of people in the west withdrew. Anyhow we postponed the trip for now. Not a single day the spiritual routine is broken. Next day the arati goes on. Dhaarana is responsible for fearlessness. Any dhaarna happens the fear will lose its grip on you. It is such a basic qualification for your very survival not only for enlightenement but for your very survival. Dhyaana means pure awareness – the restful awareness. Samadhi means became consciousness. The awareness is settled in your bio memory. So, Aasana – Praanayaama – preparing your body for higher consciousness Withdrawing from too many objects. Samaadhi – pure consciousness. Nobody except patanjali is able to give such a logical scientific step by step method to enlightenment. Everybody else happened after patanjali are directly or indirectly patanjali’s followers. Marketing not paying royalty is okay but at least giving credit. Anybody after patanjali is follower of patanjali. This 8 limbs are 8 parts, not 8 steps. Means all 8 should simultaneously happen in you. That is the method for enlightenment. Blessings!
