Narration

On this day the Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism, Bhagavan Nithyananda Paramashivam met with Dr.Charles Townes, a Nobel Laureate from the University of California. Dr.Charles was a distinguished Professor of Astro Physics at the University. He won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1964 for his research on principles underlying the LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) and MASER (Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation). Below you can see pictures of SPH discussing 'Science and Spirituality' with Dr.Charles Townes at the Berkeley Faculty club. Swamiji and Dr.Townes discussed wide-ranging topics such as Cosmic Intelligence, revelations that both have encountered in their own lives, Astronomy, The Big Bang and each others' perspectives on the Creation of the Universe. Dr.Townes had at that time just won the prestigious Templeton Prize for his life time pursuit of convergence of Science and Spirituality. Later SPH answered questions from the public through a live radio interview aired by the 'Siliconsolai Tamil Radio program'. He answered questions on Aethism, Religion and Spirituality. Amidst other messages, He stressed the relation between one's mental state and the happenings in the world. He said that while there are various things happening in the world, depending on what we tune our minds to, our own world takes shape. This he said was the 'Power of Coincidence'. Swamiji's interview received enthusiastic response in the form of feedback from listeners.

I welcome you all with My love and respects. Nice to be here once more with you all again. Usually I always address the crowd first, address the gathering based on the subject. Then I go for question-answer. Today I thought we will have a small change. Let you start with questions. I will come to the subject. From the questions I will come to the subject. Subject is supposed to be Science to Spirituality. You can start with any question…. I will answer your questions and come to the subject…. First I will spend few minutes with you all casually, informally and I will come to the subject. Somebody wants the mic.

Q: Namaste Swamiji, just before You arrived the gentleman was introducing You raised a very thought and concept which is new to me. What is Cosmic intelligence? Swamiji: The knowledge about all the past, whatever has happened and present, what is happening and the future, whatever is going to happen is what we call Cosmic intelligence. You see, just twenty years ago if somebody says, twenty years ago if somebody would have made a statement like this that you can get all the informations, whatever information you want just by clicking a button in your laptop or in your computer, in your home PC, you would have believed? Twenty years ago, if somebody makes a statement, “Oh, just by pressing a button you will get all informations in your laptop, in your home PC, in your computer,” surely we wouldn't have believed him. Surely we would have said he is fantasizing or he is imagining but today it has become reality. You can get any information just because of internet. Anything you can get just by one click. Just all you need is one click. You will get any information in the home PC and in your laptop.

Same way when I make a statement: with the right technique it is possible for you also to download any informations, anything available in the Cosmos. When I make this statement, again you are in difficulty. Twenty years ago, if somebody makes a statement you can get anything you want in your laptop just by a click, surely we wouldn't have believed. We would have questioned. We would have criticized. Same way when I make statement we are not ready to understand it is possible. Just how we can download informations because of internet, from internet, same way you can download anything available in the Cosmos, anything available. All you need to know is a simple technique or little bit of Intelligence to handle the browsing center which is in you. I call this brow center, Ajna as a browsing center. If you know how to activate the third eye or the brow center of your being, of your Consciousness, simply you can download any information about the past or about the present or about the future.

When I say cosmic intelligence I don't propose theory. I say it is authentic reality which is experienced by thousands of mystics, spiritual masters, Enlightened Beings. Again and again and again, they emphasize cosmic intelligence is possible. We are again and again and again opposing that it is not possible. The only small difficulty is, all we need to do is have a little courage and work towards it. Have a little courage you see, you will get any information but you have to click, you have to click. At least you should type the computer. You should handle it. You should connect it. Only then it is possible.

There is a small story. One guy, he was telling one of his friend. He is too lazy. He says to one of his friend, ”If there is a machine, just by switching it on, it does all our job, it should cook, it should drive, it should do our job, it should massage our feet, if it does everything, how nice it will be!” The other guy, friend said, ”If the machine also automatically gets switched on, how nice it will be!” We need at least a little bit of courage to work towards it. So, I tell you, anybody who has got little bit of courage to work towards it, to achieve it will be able to realize the truth behind My word. We think it is too good to be true. The idea of cosmic intelligence, the theory of cosmic intelligence looks like too good to be true but it is not. It is real and authentic science.

Just like we use the internet and browse, download the information, same way if you know little bit how to handle your consciousness, you can download any information from cosmos about the past or the present or the future. The science is what I call meditation and understanding about your energies. Usually we don't respect ourselves. We don't believe that we can also do something solid. That is the difficulty. Again and again and again even when you come and sit here, you listen and you feel very good about the whole thing. Oh! Swami spoke nicely. I have always seen, the end of the discourse people will come near Me and tell, “Swami, you spoke wonderfully.” I just used to catch them, “What did I speak? Tell Me. What did I say? Tell Me.” “Oh that, that, You said nicely Swamiji. You said nicely. Whatever You spoke is nicely. I can't remember but You spoke nicely.”

Only this is the depth with which we are listening to the whole thing. We don't take things sincerely. We just take all these things as one more time pass. If you have come here as one more time pass, to enjoy, it is okay, forget about it or if you are really sincere about what I Am speaking, have little courage to come with Me. Try to explore. Try to work. Have little bit of courage to find or to go to the depth of what I Am speaking, what I Am expressing. Thank you. Next? Q: Since the topic is Science to Spirituality we are thinking about the vibration of the strings is turning into particles that vibrates in different frequencies. The thought process that you develop, you are not in your control but your thought is an energy, it is a vibration, it is a fundamental vibration of some kind and have You done any research in this area?

Swamiji: Beautiful question. You made a statement, ‘Thought is not under our control.’ That is the only mistake you did. Everything else is right. Whatever you said is right. Wonderful thing but only one alteration- the thought is under our control. Please understand, who else can think for you? Analyze, if the thought process is not under your control, who is thinking sitting inside you? Nobody else can think sitting inside you. It is you who is thinking. Only thing, the frequency of the thought has become too much associated with the materials. The frequency of the thoughts has become too much than the frequency of Consciousness or awareness. There are two things: frequency of awareness and frequency of thoughts. What exactly String theory says is what is proved by the Vedanta, what we call the ancient science of inner world.

Now let Me come to the subject - the Science to spirituality. When you are really scientific, you will become spiritual. When you are scientifically scientific, you will be spiritual. Understand this simple one thing. There are two things: Unscientifically scientific and scientifically scientific. Anybody who explores science needs few basic qualifications. The first qualification is courage to listen new things, courage to listen new things, courage to hear or look into new hypotheses. First thing is courage to look into new things. Second, ready to work with that new things with the open mind, ready to work with that new things with the open mind, without prejudice or contaminated by your old thought process or the knowledge which is available to you. Third thing, the power or the courage to go behind the truth which is discovered.

Please understand, you need three things to be a real scientist. To be scientifically a scientist, logically logic. To be really a scientist, you need these three things. First, the courage to hear new ideas- openness. Second, the courage to analyze them without your prejudices. See, we have two things called listening the arguments and passing the judgment. Another one is preparing the judgment and then collecting arguments to support the judgment. Most of the time in our life the judgment is ready. We just collect or search for arguments which will support our judgment. Second thing which you need to do, the basic thing is understanding or trying to work with the ideas without any prejudice or with the corrupted mind with your old knowledge. The third thing, very important thing, the courage to follow the truth which is discovered by you.

Actually there is a wonderful book on the knowledge of inner world. According to Me, the religion of the outer world is science and the science of the inner world is spirituality. Two different worlds. The logic of the outer world is science: the logic of the inner world is spirituality. There is a, I can say this is the ultimate book ever written on the spirituality. This book is called Brahma Sutra, means aphorisms on Existence. Aphorisms on Existence. According to Me, this is the unabridged dictionary of world philosophies, unabridged dictionary of world philosophies. This book starts with a beautiful statement: Athato Brahma Jijnasat means, now let us enquire into the truth of the Brahman.

A clear scientific mind, a clear scientific mind is represented by this one sloka, by this one aphorism. How a scientific mind should work is very clearly explained. Athato Brahma jijnasat means now let us enquire into the truth of Existence. This statement very clearly proves first you will have the courage to enquire into the truth or new ideas, new dimensions. Next you will have open mind to work with that ideas, to process them, to analyze them, to categorize them, to understand them. Third thing, you will have the courage to work them out in your life, to put them into practice in your life or to make them as a reality in your life. When these three things are there, only then you can be called as scientist. You can be called as a person who is working with science.

In any field you want a new opening or a breakthrough, only a man who has got these three qualities can do it. Whether it is Information technology or he Physics or the Chemistry, whatever it may be, whatever it may be the field, these three qualities are basic need for any breakthrough, any new discovery or any new research or any new, anything new has to happen, it can happen only through these three qualities. If you have really courage and have these three quality, you will simply be a spiritual man because spirituality needs these three basic things. You need to explore the new dimensions of your being. You need to have courage to analyze the new truths or the new ideas which is coming to your being. Third thing, you need to have the courage to follow the Sathya which you discover, follow the truth which you discover, the conscious transformation.

The difficulty is, all our… whether it is a scientific research or spiritual research, it is corrupted with our own investments. We have so many other investments. All our scientific researches are corrupted by commercial people. They have their own interest, vested interest. They want only the development or the growth to happen which will make them more rich, which will give them commercial benefits, which will give them more comfort and luxury. People don't bother about the comfort or the good thing of the whole world. Another way, if it is a spiritual search, again we have our own vested interest. As long as the truth gives little more comfort and luxury for us, it is okay. The moment it demands transformation of life, we say ‘bye,’ we say, ‘Let us depart.’ Here we.... Here ends our journey.

As long as it gives little bit of consolation or a peace or comfort, we are ready to travel. As long as it gives little bit of comfort or comforting sense, “Oh! you are great.” Our ego satisfaction, that is what I call. Many of our so-called spiritual activities are nothing but ego satisfaction. Why do you think people erect such tall temples? Such big temples? Not for God, it is just to prove their greatness. It is all... what they mean is they are great. It just declares their greatness, not the greatness of God. To prove the greatness of God, he has already created Himalayas and big, big mountains. You can't compete with it. He has created already the big, big mountains. He doesn't have to..... you don't have to prove his greatness just by creating one more tall structure. We create tall structures just to prove our ego. We wanted to say we are great. Straightaway saying is too arrogant, it is too arrogant. It looks too odd. So you wanted to find some technical method or some technical way to say it.

Whenever you want to say I am great, we can't say great directly. So we say, “My religion is great, my country is great, my language is great, my dress is great, my race is great, my creed is great,” so that we can say that I am great without saying I am great…. Our life, our spiritual search, everything is almost saying this same word I am great without saying I am great. You see, our search is not really a search, it is one more coat we wanted to brag about. Just when a new style of fur coat comes to a market, if you don't own it, you are not up to date. It is something like you have to prove. So to prove yourself you have to own it. So same way, spirituality is also a one more fur coat, one more fur coat. We go round gathering it. We feel very nice.

When you talk to your community, you can always say, “Do you know, a young Swamy from India came. He spoke so well. He is such an intelligent person. You have missed.” If somebody has not come to the class or program, you will feel so happy to introduce. So you can always say, you know something which they don't know. You know something which they don't know. So naturally you add little more stuff and you beautifully orate and for the few moments you become a representative of Me. So naturally you can't just directly brag about ourself. So what we do? We catch something based on which we can stand. Whether it is a science or a spirituality, if it has no investments, if it is honest, you will simply enter into the other zone. If you start as a scientist, you will become a spiritual person. If you start as a spiritual person, again you will become a scientist. The science and the spirituality are not contradicting each other: they are complementing each other in the true sense of spirit.

Scientist is a person who creates a formula about the experience which happened to him in the outer world. He creates a formula to reproduce the same thing which happened to him in the outer world. Scientist is a person who creates a formula to reproduce what has happened to him in the outer world. Rishi is a person who creates a formula to reproduce the same experience what has happened to him in the inner world. Scientist is a person who creates a formula to reproduce what has happened to him in the outer world. Rishi is a person who creates a formula to reproduce the same experience what has happened to him in the inner world. The formulas created by rishis only we call as meditation techniques. Meditation techniques are nothing but formulas created by enlightened beings, rishis to reproduce the same experience which happened to him in the inner world.

Whether it is science or spirituality, the spirit is one and the same. When it is not contaminated, simply you will enter into the new dimension of consciousness, new level of being. The real spirituality when it is not contaminated with the vested interest of so-called religions, the difficulty is how the commercial people corrupt the scientific research. Same way, so-called vested interest of religious people corrupts the pure search of spirituality. Whenever we have vested interest we corrupt the pure spiritual search.

Today morning, I was having a interview with that Stanford radio, Silicon Sole. Nice interview! Somebody asked Me, “Please tell me about the ritualless spirituality, ritual less life, ritualless religion. I told him, “When you give importance to principles, you enter into spirituality. When you give importance to personality, again you are caught with the rituals. If you give importance to Krishna, you will be caught with rituals. If you can give importance to Geeta, simply you will grow into new dimension of Consciousness. Same way, the philosophy of Rama is all embracing, the brotherhood, all encompassing love. Rama's family, it took birth as four brothers. They took birth as four brothers and added Guha as the fifth and Sugriva- sixth, Vibhishana-seventh. The family just grew and expanded brotherhood.

Universal brotherhood is the message of Rama. If we give importance to this message, you will not have any problem. When you give importance to personality, you have lot of problems. The word, beautiful word Ayodhya. He named his place as Ayodhya. Ayodhya means where there is no yuddha, where there is no wars. What he would have fantasized about the city? Rama named his headquarters as the place where there is no wars. When you give importance to the personality, you create wars, you create difficulties. I always emphasize, you go to doctor. You are getting the medication but you don't bother about anything else. Go and start the medication. Same way, when you go to Masters, take the meditation, work with it. When you work, you will be entering into a new Consciousness.

One more thing, because I am speaking about the science and spirituality, I wanted to emphasize this. The light is discovered by Edison, Thomas Alva Edison. Just because it is discovered by him, we can't say only christians can use the light. It belongs to whole world. The moment he discovered, it belongs to whole humanity. Same way, the truths of the inner world, maybe rishis would have discovered it. Discovery might have done by the great rishis but once it is discovered, it belongs to the whole universe, whole world. They don't belong to a single group. They don't belong to a single race or a religion. Whomsoever may discover, it belongs to the whole world. Science and spirituality needs only one thing- your courage to face the truth, your courage to face the truth and your courage to transform your life based on the truth, your courage to open up, your courage to transform your life.

Swamiji: Next question. Q: My question concerns a topic which is in the news very much at the moment of a woman called Terri Schiavo in Florida who has been kept alive for the last fifteen years and my question is, that is really an artifact of science and medicine and it seems that it is against the course of nature. Can You comment on what is the right…

Swamiji: That is nice question. My personal feeling is, science can be used to keep people alive and next question immediately comes in our mind is, she is suffering. Why should we not let her die? Am I right? This is what we want. After all she is suffering. Why not let us leave, let us allow her to die. You see, from My own experience I can answer this. Whenever people die it is not that their suffering is reduced. You may not be aware of their suffering but the suffering is same. For example, if she is undergoing her birth and death cycle, if she is supposed to die in the age of hundred, and if she dies in the age of forty or fifty, so naturally it is not that she is going to be peaceful. You may not know her pain after she dies but consciously the pain is going to be there.

So if we keep her alive, there is a chance she may come back, she may become normal, she may become healthy. So from My view, I accept science helping the people to extend their life or keeping people alive through science. So there is a possibility. They can always come back. There are cases even after ten years, they have come back. After ten years of coma stage, people have come back. There are cases. There are records. So, keeping them is no way wrong according to My feeling. Thank you.

(Swamiji reads a question) Here is a question: Would You please explain Papa and Punya means sin and merit in terms of old religious thinking and modern life and living? Scientific explanation.

Let Me answer this question first: “Would you please explain Papa and Punya in terms of old religious thinking and modern life and living?” In terms of old religious thinking, it is just based on greed and fear. If you do this you will be given heaven; if you don't do it, you will be given hell. It is just the concept of greed and fear. The hell and heaven are nothing but expansions of your fear and greed. In the old religious thinking way, it is based on fear and greed. According to Me, you don't go to hell after doing sin. You do sins because you are in hell!... You do something wrong, you behave violently because you are not at ease with yourself. A man who is relaxed, who is happy, blissful will never hurt others. The man who is connected with himself will never hurt others. If you hurt others, if you disturb others, be very clear, you are not here, you are already in hell. So you do sins because you are in hell, not that you will do sins and go to hell. No.

So be very clear, same way, you don't do good things and go to heaven. No. If you are in heaven you do good things. If you have a peaceful mind, if you have blissful mind, if you are totally happy with yourself, only then you can do something good. Here I wanted to say one more word. If you do the so-called good deed of something like Punya, what society says as good without a good mind, without a happy mood, even that will have only difficulty. For example, if you try to do some charity without you feeling ecstatic or happy about it, you will try to expect your name and create all possible problems to the people who receive from you.

I have seen in India. People donate one small tube light to a temple and in the temple, in that tube light, they will write so many black letter words, Ramanathan’s son, Somanathan donated this light to this temple in memory of his wife Rasa Manikam and date, Rasamani. The moment you switch on the switch, only black lines will be seen on the wall. Even when you do charity without feeling blissful, you will be only hurting others. You will be only violating others. I have seen many people, the so-called charitable institutions. They create trouble just because they want to serve. They support all causes which creates trouble. They support all possible way, the roots of trouble and then they go and serve. They create all the situations to have more orphans on the planet earth. Then they go on build orphanage homes. I have seen that becomes a vested interest. That becomes their job. If there is nobody to care, whom will they care? They want orphans to take care.

So with ego or without having a deep ecstasy or bliss inside your being, even your charitable activities will cause problems and difficulties to others. With the proper understanding, if you feel in tune with yourself, whatever you do will be punya or merit. So in the early times, the sin or the merit is based on the quantity. Now it is based on the quality. What is the quality of your life, that only is going to prove or speak whether you are doing sin or merit. So understand, if you are living blissfully whatever you do will be punya, merit. If you are living with a suffering or in hell, whatever you do will be only papa or sin because directly or indirectly you will create hell for yourself and others. What you have inside only you will radiate. Understand, you will radiate only what you have. You can't radiate what you don't have. So papa or punya is only the quality of your state, the quality of your mind. The sin or the merit does not depend on the status of your being. It depends on the state of your being. It depends on the state of your being.

(Swamiji reads a question) Here is a question: “Swamiji, going back to the question of Florida woman who is being kept alive, You talked about cycle of birth and death but in some countries people do not believe in rebirth. Please comment.” Whether you believe it or not, truth is truth. Whether you believe it or not, truth is truth. When the question is put to Me I have to answer only based on what I know as truth, what I experienced as a truth. So I do not know about others' belief. Thank you.

Here is a one more beautiful question, very challenging question, “How do You know that cosmic intelligence You are downloading is not infected with virus, is not a product of Your own mind?” Nice question! When you download something and you apply it in your life, if it works out, then even if it is having virus or not, why do you bother? If it does not work out even if it does not have virus, it is going to harm you. Whatever I downloaded, not only I Am working out in My life, at least I can say, more than a million people are working out in their life in last two years. It is always working and the only effect created is bliss and healing, bliss and healing. So this itself according to Me is a solid proof of it is not with virus. If something can create, if some virus can create bliss in one million people, the virus is welcome. It can't be considered anymore as a virus. If something can cause bliss in so many millions of people, you can't consider that as a virus.

In the early time, they were thinking all bacteria's are wrong. Now they are coming up with a new theory. It is not all bacterias are wrong. It is not all viruses are wrong. Do you know? Now they are coming with a theory. There are many viruses, many bacterias which helps your body's function, which helps the smooth function of your body. It helps for your health and well being. So from the experiences of millions of people we are able to conclude the intelligence which I Am downloading is without any wrong virus and whatever is a part of it is only helping the people. So based on this, we can come to a clear conclusion.

I always say, science is a woman who has attained puberty. Not, who has not become mother. Applied science is a mother. See, when a woman becomes a mother, she achieves fulfillment. She becomes a full being, a total being. Same way, when the science becomes applied science, it reaches its peak. It has achieved its fulfillment. So the science which I Am downloading, now it has become applied science. It has reached its fulfillment. So based on that fulfillment and experiences we can say for sure, it does not have any virus which creates any trouble for people and not only that, there are some firewalls…. There are some firewalls which takes care of the virus. So I can be sure. I can have a small information bar, the information bar. If it creates bliss in you, you don't have to bother what it does or what it is. So I can be sure of what I Am downloading. Thank you.

Q: What I was trying to say Swamiji, when You are saying right in the beginning the cosmic intelligence can be downloaded, your own mind have thoughts. How do you differentiate whether you are downloading cosmic intelligence or your own thinking? Swamiji: Oh! That's a nice question: “How do you know whether you are downloading from cosmic intelligence or your own mind?” As far as you concerned, you will always have the confusion. You see, when a person downloads from cosmic intelligence, he will not have this confusion. As long as we have the confusion whether it is my own mind thinking or downloading from cosmic intelligence, be very clear, it is your own mind’s thinking. When you download from cosmic intelligence, this question will simply disappear and the next thing, whatever is not fed inside your being through the senses will also happen in you. Only then you will be able to… then you will be able to understand it is happening from cosmic intelligence.

For example, the information which is not sent to you, fed inside through your senses. The senses are the doors through which the information goes in. That is the way through which we collect data. Suddenly sometime you start releasing or delivering a product, giving out data, giving things which is not fed through these five senses. So naturally you have to agree now it is coming from some other source, from some other plane which is not your mind, which cannot be classified or said as your mind. That plane is what I call cosmic intelligence. Tomer is able to understand? Sort of. Can you... If you can articulate your question little more way or in little more cornering way, I will be able to come up with little more answer. I can throw little more light on that question.

Q: When you meditate, you meditate after when there are no thoughts. You really have, you have some of the thought. At that time, you have some thinking. That thinking is not your thinking as you stopped thinking and you know that but you have been thinking all your life. Now it is kind of difficult to differentiate whether the thinking you are having now is an old thinking somehow cropped up because we have not attained that stage, Swami. We are beginner. So for a beginner this kind of is confusing and difficult.

Swamiji: It is a nice question. You see, actually when cosmic intelligence descends on you, it never descends, it never happens to you in the form of thinking. As long as it happens to you in the form of thinking, be very clear, it is a pop up. It is a pop up which is fed sometime ago. It is not cosmic intelligence. It is just which happens to you, which comes up, maybe fed ten years ago, twenty years ago. When cosmic intelligence happens to you, it never happens to you in the form of thinking. It happens to you in the form of energy and it gets translated when you start verbalizing it. It is like a lump of energy happens to you. When you start verbalizing, that expresses itself in the new form. You get a clarity to look into the thoughts, not the thoughts itself. You are able to understand what I say? If you are getting only the thoughts in the meditation, be very clear, it is not cosmic intelligence.

If you are getting energy or a pure clarity with which you are able to analyze the thoughts which you are having already. It's like a, you will have torch, not the map. If you are getting maps please be very clear, it is from mind. It is a popup. If you are getting torch or a pure light or a pure bliss or a peace or a total silence, then be very clear, you are having cosmic intelligence. When you have that pure silence, the moment you come down from meditation and again start thinking, you will start thinking in a totally new dimension. You will start expressing in a totally new dimension. That is the expression of cosmic intelligence but the experience of cosmic intelligence itself happens only as a thoughtless silence or thoughtless awareness or thoughtless bliss, not as thoughts. As an expression it can come up in the way of, form of thoughts. When after experiencing, when you speak about it, it can come in the form of thoughts but by itself it is not a thought.

From the beginning…. because this is again a personal question, I can address only to her. If your body is accustomed, habituated for the vegetarian food, then okay. Live with it but if your body is trained for some other food, some other system, changing the system itself takes such a lot of time, waste of energy. I always tell people, if you are already habituated for vegetarian food, carry on. Don't go to non-veg, but if you are already habituated to non-vegetarian food, don't waste your energy in changing the system. Better start meditating. Let things happen by itself. Let things happen by itself. Don't bother, don't spend too much of energy in changing the system.

I have seen people who drop smoking ten times within a year. Means what? Ten times they again started! They waste such a lot of energy in such a simple issue, such a simple issue. Simply start meditating. If it is necessary, instead of you dropping smoking, smoking will drop you…. Instead of you dropping non-vegetarian, non-vegetarian will drop you. At least in the initial level, I don't tell people to do this type of hard things. Don't take up..... Don't start too hard things in the beginning. I have seen people, the moment they enter into spiritual life, they try all impossible big, big things to have ego satisfaction, just to prove to their family and friends I have changed. Now I am no more old person. Touch my feet. I am holier than thou. So that take up too big things. Understand, you don't have to take up too big things which is not practical, which is wasting your energy just to prove you are somebody. Add meditation. If it is supposed to happen, simply let it happen. Otherwise don't worry.

Here is a beautiful question. Is happiness more important or the truth? For example, if truth is actually that God does not exist but if you feel happy believing in Him, is it right? Whose question? Can I... Yes nice, thank you. First thing, it is a hypothetical question. It says, if truth is so, truth is actually God does not exist. The questions with if cannot be answered. I say if truth is God exists, what can be done? So this is the hypothetical question. All we can do is... there is a…in the world there is a two group which says that God exists. There is another one group which says there is no God. Both groups are dependent on the orating skill of a leader, that's all. Please understand, both groups are dependent on the orating skill of that leader, that's all.

By arguing you can come to the conclusion only by experience. This is the first answer. The next point: if you feel happy believing in him, is it right? I tell you, whatever you know, whatever you think as you know is nothing but your belief. Please be very clear, you can't say some statement is true, some statement is wrong. For example, you can't be even sure that you are sitting in front of Me and listening this discourse. You can't be sure that this statement is truth. It maybe even in the dream. You are having a nice dream, who knows? In the dream also we see so many things and in the dream time, we simply believe it is truth. Am I right? We simply believe it is a truth and only when we come out of the dream, we understand it is not truth. So maybe suddenly tomorrow you may wake up and find the whole thing is just a dream. Who knows? We don't have any guarantee. There is no assurance that you are listening to Me is a truth. It is just your belief.

So, whatever you know as truth is nothing but your belief, whatever you know. Please understand, mark My words. Whatever you know as truth is nothing but your belief. So if this belief makes you blissful, why don't you have it? That's all and let Me tell you, all your fantasy is just belief which makes you blissful. In reality, it may not be so blissful but in the belief, you have a strong belief it is a blissful thing. So when you strongly believe it is blissful, you simply feel it is a truth, it is a truth. So here is a question: if you feel happy believing in him is it right? And I tell you, you believe only things which makes you happy and whatever you believe only you think as truth.

The ultimate truth can neither be believed nor be unbelieved. You can neither believe or….you can neither believe or doubt. You can't do anything about the ultimate truth. Whatever you know as truth, it is only what you believe. So there are so many beliefs in you which creates misery in you. Am I right? So why don't you have one belief which creates bliss, that's all, which creates happiness? Why don't you pamper yourself little bit? Why don't you pamper yourself? Why don’t you have at least little bit of consolation? So don't bother. If it gives you little bit of happy, start believing. Let you be little relaxed.

There is a next question: if people are happy with their lives, should they practice spirituality? No. Please don't. If you are really happy, you are practicing spirituality. You are living spirituality. Bliss is what is all about spirituality. Understand for example, many people again and again tell you, you are supposed to practice spirituality only when you are happy. I tell you, no. It is like a they want to promote their ideas. See, if you have to sell some product, you have to make somebody feel the necessity of it. Same way, the people, the so-called spiritual business people, they make you feel that you need it. Then they sell their product. I tell you, if you are already happy, simply forget all about spirituality and just continue be happy and blissful, that's all. That's all we need. Don't be caught by any businessman.

You see, whenever I read that Sky Mall magazine, whenever you read that Sky Mall magazine, you just feel you can't live without that product. It describes so nicely and you just feel the life can't go without that product. And same way, the people who market the spiritual ideas or the spiritual products, again they create a guilt in you being happy is something wrong. Being blissful means somewhere you are doing sin. Something is going wrong. So it is just a technique to create guilt so that you will start feeling the need for that spiritual product for their market. So don't be caught by any spiritual products or any person who wants to market his ideas if you are already blissful. Being blissful is all about spirituality. If you have achieved that, you are spiritual. You are already living it. You just live with that same joy, bliss and happiness. Keep it up. That is enough.

(Swamiji reads a question) If words stay in the ether forever, can't it be captured? You can't capture the words. You can capture only the silence or the energy of the words. Then when you express it, it will become a words. You can only capture the silence of words, not the words itself. That's why we call Vedas or Shrutis ‘heard.’ Heard does not mean, and actually, even the word Shruti cannot be translated as heard. Shruti means experienced through ears, not heard. Heard is a poor translation. Heard is a poor translation for the word Shruti. So it is just an experience of great masters. You see, when these great ten gurus of Sikhism, whatever they experienced, they verbalized it and it became a book called Guru Granth Sahib. Whatever Guru Govind Singh experienced he verbalized it. It is not that he just heard as letters. He had a ultimate Enlightenment. That experience he verbalized it. So whatever you experience then you verbalize and that becomes an ultimate scripture.

Here is a beautiful question: No one knows about last birth or next birth. Why should we bother or even anyone knows about it? What is the use? You are really intelligent person. I tell you, when you feel that there is no need to bother, no need to know, you are right and actually there is no need to bother. People come and ask Me, “Swamiji, please give me the past life memory.” I tell them, “Last fifty years memory itself is haunting your head. You are not able to sleep. You are not at peace. You are depressed. If you have that one more life, one more fifty years of memory, what will happen to you? Simply you will become mad!” So better to forget the past life memories. It is good as you say, there is no need. Simply no use.

(Swamiji reads a question) Vivekananda has mentioned that Vedanta is extremely practical. How can I apply it in my life in this cut-throat world? In cut-throat world only, Vedanta is extremely practical. Vedanta is not practical in the Himalayas. I have seen people thirty years spending in silence to practice Vedanta. The day they come down to Haridwar to visit, all anger and all emotions comes out. The day they come down from Himalayas, all their things comes out. It means what? Vedanta is not practical in Himalayas. It is practical only in the cut-throat world. Understand deeply in depth about the whole reality or nature of yourSelf and just be filled with that ideas. That is enough. Again and again I tell people, let these ideas be heard by you again and again and again. Don't make this as a part time job. Whenever you find time, use these CDs, use these literatures, use these DVDs, use these books. Again and again put these ideas inside.

Ramakrishna says beautifully, if a person is drunk, totally drunk, unconscious, you need to give him at least one fourth quantity of the rice water. If he has drunk one liter, at least quarter liter of rice water you are supposed to give. Only then it will come down. He will become alright. Same way, we are totally stuffed with the ideas from the world. So many ideas which gives continuously misery and suffering. Now at least one fourth quantity you should stuff the ideas of bliss and joy. So stuff these ideas at least one fourth. Naturally you will see the transformation happening. Take these ideas inside again and again through the audio discourses, through DVDs, through books. That can only change and transform your life.

(Swamiji reads a question) I think happiness and sadness is a temporary state. It can last few days or moments. It may not last forever. Do You not recommend knowing spirituality helps improve the happy state for longer time? I tell you, the moment you want the happiness to remain for a longer time, you are not spiritual. You are not spiritual. (Swamiji coughs) Sorry. I have always seen people asking Me, “Swamiji, in Your programs, we feel so much of bliss and ecstasy. How to hold it forever? How to keep it forever?” I tell them, “The moment you want to keep it, you have started losing it.” Bliss itself is choicelessness. Understand, bliss itself is choicelessness. When you are in the state of choicelessness, you are blissful. The moment you choose bliss, you have already entered into choice. You already disturbed the bliss. Bliss by its own nature is choicelessness. So when you choose choicelessness, what do you do? You choose choicelessness. You destroyed the whole bliss or you destroyed the whole juice of it.

So I tell you, when you try to hold the bliss, don't think you are spiritual. It's like a your hands are in a river. If your hands are open, the river will be there always in your hands. The moment you try to hold the river, if you let your hand, you will have only the empty hand. Same way, as long as you are open, you are ready to let go the bliss, it will continuously happening in your being. It will be continuously happening in your being. The moment you want to hold it, the moment you want to keep it for a longer time, you have started destroying it. So don't try to hold the bliss. Just allow it to happen and move. That is the real spirituality. That is enough for bliss to happen.

Here is a nice question: Why do You become Swami and how would You describe it? Please you should understand, I Am a Paramahamsa. There is a different kind of subsect. I Am not Swami; I Am paramahamsa. Paramahamsa means a man who is liberated from the outer world and inner world bondages. Great Swan, paramahamsa literally translated, it means great swan. Technically the definition is a man who has liberated himself consciously from all the bondages, who lives just based on conscious, who lives just as He feels blissful. The liberation from inner world and the outer world is what I call paramahamsa means a person who lives with his conscious choices, not based on any rules, regulation or somebody's expectation. A person who is fulfilling his own conscious choice is a paramahamsa.

Swami means he has got rules. He is supposed to follow so many rules. I Am not actually swami. I Am a paramahamsa and you asked the next question: how would You describe it? I have already described. I have already described. I have not went for Sanyas. People come and ask Me, “Swamiji, should I take Sanyas?” I tell them, “No, don't take.” They question Me, “Why? You became a Sanyasi. Why are you asking us not to?” I tell them, “I never went and asked anybody should I became a Swami or not? I just felt I should become a paramahamsa and I became.” As long as you have the mood of asking somebody, means you don't have enough confidence. You don't have enough confidence about yourself. As long as you wanted to ask, never take.

So I tell you, swami is different and paramahamsa is different. Lovingly they call Me as a Swami. The title has been associated with Me but originally it is little more than a Swami. It is like a MBBS and MD. It is little more than a swami. Paramahamsa means man who has experienced the Ultimate or His being. Swami means man who is trying or working to experience. Swami is like a sadhaka; Paramahamsa is like a person who has achieved. So I never went to have sanyas in the spiritual life. I always went to only become enlightened or to become paramahamsa.

(Swamiji reads a question) How can one evaluate spiritual progress? What percentage of the program is downloaded? To say honestly, we can't evaluate till the complete enlightenment happens. Maybe to console you I can say, the more clarity you feel, the more bliss you feel, you can say the evaluation is the more growth is happening, more progress is happening but the ultimately, even if you have progressed 99% and the last one percent, there is always a chance of coming down to zero percent. There is always a risk. So it is better to understand that 100% growth is the real progress.

Now after everyday after a discourse you will have the Energy Darshan. Let Me explain the word energy darshan. We call it Ananda Darshan. See, the discourses which you are listening, you can hear from any professor or a philosopher. Professors and philosophers can speak much better than Me. They can give you more intellect than Me. The real gift which you can receive from a master is the energy. Here is a question, beautiful question, “Swamiji, You are speaking about the courage and how to have that courage?” And this is the technique: when you have the energy, the courage happens to you. It is just to give you the guidance which has happened in My life. So you will be touched in the Ajna chakra and the meditation or a spiritual energy or whatever you call, whatever you name, will be flooded into your being which always gives only positive effect. Only positive side effect is bliss and healing, bliss and healing.

So whomsoever is interested, of course, it is an option. It is an option. So, from now onwards we started because just to have an intellectual idea you can have anywhere. You don't have to even come here. Just sit in front of the computer. From My website you can download so many discourses. There is no need to come in person. So we started this new program called Energy Darshan. After every discourse everyday you will have the Kirtan. Kirtan means it is the Eastern, the Indian traditional way of singing the name of the Lord, singing the name of the divine and dancing. The Kirtan we call it.

We will start the Energy Darshan. It is like a trying to give you the glimpse of the energy, trying to give you the glimpse of the truth behind these words or the experience behind these words. Instead of just an intellectual stuff, it can inspire you. The energy can inspire you to start. It is like a… you see, we always have wrong ideas, wrong deeds, then again suffering. When suffering adds more wrong ideas, more wrong deeds, then more suffering. It becomes a vicious circle. How to stop? Only Masters’ energy can stop and roll the ball through the other side. It is like a trying to roll the ball to the other side.

Now you will have right deeds, joy and the right understanding. When the right deeds are happening, the joy happens. Naturally right understanding happens. The right understanding leads to more joy, more right deeds. Then the ball starts rolling this side. Instead of moving towards mithya, we start moving towards Nithya. Instead of moving towards ephemeral, we start moving towards Eternal. From ephemeral to eternal, from mithya to Nithya is what we want to achieve and the Energy Darshan or Ananda Darshan it is a humble help from a master who has experienced it to the people who want to experience it.

There is a beautiful description about a mystic, master and paramahamsa. As I was telling you, scientist is a person who reproduces the same…who creates a formula to reproduce the same experience which happened to him in the outer world is a scientist. Mystic means a person who experiences in the inner world. Master or a rishi is a person who creates a formula to reproduce the same experience in other beings. Paramahamsa is a person who straightaway reproduces the experience itself beyond the formula. He straightaway reproduces that experience itself by His presence through His touch.

The NSP is a humble trial we are trying to reproduce the experience, the same experience of bliss which happened in Me in every being. It is a humble trial of trying to produce the same experience and we can be proud to say we are successful in last so many hundreds of programs in reproducing that pure bliss from the Conscious Being. So it is a…. I can say, formula, more than, much more than a formula, it is a experience to be experienced by individual only that can’t be reversed.

On March 22nd 2005, Swamiji met with Dr.Charles Townes, a Nobel Laureate from the University of California. Dr.Charles is a distinguished Professor of Astro Physics at the University. He won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1964 for his research on principles underlying the LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) and MASER (Microwave Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation).
