Title:

Zoom in your concentration - Expand your capacity! Patanjali Yoga Sutra

Narration

On this day, the Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism Bhagavan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam delivered a Discourse on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras in Vancouver Canada. SPH beautifully shared that all our ideas about problems do not have any base. They are all floating. Our ideas about love, about pain, about attention, about fear, about worry, about greed, and more of such ideas are all floating. They are not clearly rooted or hooked or grounded. They are all just floating. SPH elaborated on how one of His devotees got totally unburdened in less that one day by being in His presence. After which SPH asked him “ did you think that the problem that you were contemplating on in the morning will leave your inner space?” The devotee said that he never imagined that the problem that was haunting him for so many months would leave his inner space so easily. It was there in him continuously and he never thought that it would just move or disappear from his inner space.

That day's Presidential Address-Nithyananda Satsang was conducted by the Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism Bhagavan Nithyananda Paramashivam on 10 March 2009 in Vancouver, Canada.

Sadaashiva Samaarambaam Shankaraacharya Madhyamaam | Asmadaacharya parayantam Vande Guru Paramparaam ||

I welcome you all with my love and respects.

What do I mean by the words problems can wash away problems? All your ideas about problems do not have base. They are all floating. Your idea about love, your idea about pain, your idea about attention, your idea about fear, your idea about worry, you idea about greed, and more such ideas are all floating. They are not clearly rooted or hooked or grounded. They are all just floating.

One wave is enough and suddenly you can see that so many things which you felt can never be removed, just disappear. I asked him “ did you think that the problem that you are contemplating on in the morning will leave your inner space?” He said that he never imagined that the problem that was haunting him for so many months will leave his inner space so easily. It was there in him continuously and he never thought that it will just move or disappear from his inner space.

Understand, sometimes, problems can remove problems from your inner space. When the big problem of his house being taken away, came up; the big wave happened in his inner space and suddenly all the small problems, small waves disappeared. If you look inside and actually observe how your mind works; if you understand what I said just now about suddenly this one big problem rising and all the smaller problems disappearing and when the big problem is also solved, you are completely in peace and the small problems are not there anymore, even though you have not solved it. See for this person, only the big problem got sorted out. The small problem was not sorted out or solved. It is still there, but suddenly it has no power over him. His inner space is not disturbed at all by it.

I told him that this is the basic understanding that he needs to know. This understanding will completely liberate you and your respect for mind will be lost. First thing you should know is that your respect for the problem should disappear. Somebody asked me “ Swamiji, are you saying that my problem is not big?”. I told them “ sorry, but to tell the truth, you yourself are not big”. Forget about your problems, but it hurts when someone says that you are not big. But what to do, that’s the truth. The big problem is that when your problems are big, you feel you are big. Many times I have seen this.

In those days whenever people come, I used to tell them to stay in the Ashram for a few days and suddenly these people will create a lot of problems in them; they will say “ no no, I cannot stay here, I have to go to my work and I don’t have the time. I cannot meditate, I am too lazy or I have no time” . On the other hand, if I tell them that they should not stay here and that should leave immediately, then they will say “ no no, you are letting me stay here, you are not giving me attention, and you do not love me”. See the mind constantly creates waves, either this way or that way. That is why we say mind is wavering. It is an action. Mind is a verb. Please understand that the mind is a verb. Patanjali says very beautifully that it is not a thing, it is an action. Just remember that it is an action and stop it. Nothing else.

I asked that person, “ Now do you understand the value of the mind”. He said “ Sure swamiji, I can never imagine that the problem of non responsiveness of the person with whom I am in love will just disappear”. He said that he thought the problem will keep haunting him for days, but suddenly it has disappeared. One more secret, you should know, is that whenever you go through the basic fears, huge energy is released from the Swadishtana(the navel chakra) to take you out of that fear.

There is an automatic mechanism inside you. If you experience any pain, after some limit, you will fall unconscious, because there is an automatic anesthetic mechanism inside you. The body will be pushed into the unconscious zone and you will not feel the pain. Same way, even for fear, after certain limits, if the fear is too much, there will be huge energy rush inside you and that energy rush is intelligent enough to push all other pain, all other sufferings, all other thoughts, all other problems. Understand the key.

The first key, the first truth that you should remember is that your problems are not as you think them to be. They are neither permanent nor impermanent. If you think they are impermanent, they are not as you think. If you think they are permanent, they are not as you think. All your ideas about your problems are not right. This is the first understanding I want you to know. Sometimes, even a very simple problem can occupy your inner space and you will forget about your bigger problem. You are just caught with these small things while the bigger ones are unattended. You are too busy settling these small things and are not thinking about the bigger things in your life.

Abhyasa! Please understand the term Abhyasa means understanding that your problems are neither permanent nor impermanent, and that your understanding about the problem is not right. The second step for an Abhyasa is coming back to your centre again again and again. For enlightenment you need only three things and they are Abhyasa, Abhyasa and Abhyasa.

Let you achieve and radiate the eternal bliss. Nithyananda. Thank You.
