Title: Surrender into Samadhi

Surrender into Samadhi (Patanjali Yoga Sutras 96) - Nithyananda Morning Satsang 11 Jan 2011

Description:

In this video, living enlightened master and avatar Paramahamsa Nithyananda explains the different words in this sutra - samadhi, siddhi, and Ishwara. He defines Samadhi as a part of active spiritualism and says samadhi as getting back to one's original leadership quality. Samadhi is more than just altered states of consciousness. He defines siddhi as the ripening of you in you. When the ripening happens samadhi also happens. He then explains Ishwara as the ultimate experience happening in the place you can relate to. He elaborates this by giving taking examples which we relate to like mind, identity, physical body, etc.

He says he does not want to translate Ishwara as god as the word god has been spoiled too much.

If you spend more time in the mind, then listening and imbibing the truths is Ishwara.

If you spend more time in the body, then devotion is the god for you.

If you spend time in just being, the guru is the god for you.

Now surrender does not mean becoming a slave. Rising to that frequency, falling in tune or feeling connection is the translation. When you fall in tune, you attract that vibration in your life.

pranitanat is active surrendering

Fall in tune with your ishwara, that will lead you to being the leader which is the original state of your consciousness and existence.

Prayer. Welcome. Today’s subject is surrender to Samadhi! Q: sometimes when I do meditation or listen to devotional music I feel that I am breathing from the tip of my head… Actually visualizing that you are breathing thru the 21 points – tip of your hand fingers, leg fingers and sahasraara is a technique to balance your samaana. Q: I feel the eNeffect in Las Vegas. I feel I am swaying in the universe. My question is after the eNeffect is over I feel so restless. Is there anything I can do? The initial few days the mind will feel restless becos it will have the craving. Don’t worry, have the eNeffect everyday to happen in your system. Maybe within 10 days the restlessness after the eNeffect which is craving for it will disappear and the eNeffect will continue in you continuously. Q: can you explain in detail about eNeffect. How does it happen? I have spoken on this elaborately in one satsang with title – eNeffect. In the presence of an incarnation, master whose kundalini is completely alive & awake which can awaken others kundalini just by mere presence your Kundalini is also awakened – kundalini means your natural bio memory which will lead to extraordinary mental and physical wellness…all the auspicious happenings which fulfill your existence on planet earth. When it happens in an individual he evolves, when it happens in a group, the whole group consciousness evolves, when it happens with a whole city, the entire city evolves, when it happens with a civilization, the civilization evolves. We are here to make the whole civilization evolve! Q: levitation is just a side effect of a cons breakthrough happening in a person. I feel I already achieved that by your blessings, teachings and the scandal. Now a days nothing gives me suffering. I am getting bored without suffering or joy I am able to feel pure silence and bliss. Is it possible to live like this without my bio memory getting changed by my right understanding? Yes. It is possible. How much you follow me, I follow you. how my scandal does not touch me, your scandal does not touch you. More over I am not able to accept that levitation happens only for people who prepare their body with yoga and praanayama – it may happen but only when you do yoga and praanayaama will be able to hold it. Only if you prepare yourself thru praanayama and yoga permanent establishment of levitation will happen. If you are able to sit like a statue for hours it is a siddhi. If you are able to levitate it is a siddhi. Both are siddhis. Anima means reducing like an atom, mahima means making it like hill. Levitation is a more easy siddhi than sitting like a statue. See me in Pancha tapas – earlier I used to sit for 2 hours without moving. The ability to sit like statue is also equivalent or more than the levitation. Both are based on praana. Q: The moment you feel weightlessness in the body, the psychological levitation has started happening. Now you will see it happen physically also. If I want to purchase something from a shop, before leaving nothing comes, but when I reach the shop intuition comes up and says don’t do it…..again sit in the presence in the morning. I will see that your intuition becomes more solid. Let me enter into the sutra – 96th Patanjali Yoga Sutras, 2nd chapter 45th verse – Samadhi siddhir Ishvara Pranidanaat Vivekananda: through the sacrificing of all to ishwara comes samadhi Prabhavananda: as a result of devotion to God, one achieves Samadhi Satchitananda: By total surrender to god, Samadhi is attained Dwivedi: from resignation to ishwara the accomplishment of Samadhi follows. Samadhi siddhir Ishvara Pranidanaat – All the words in this sutra are technical terms – Samadhi, siddhi, Ishvara, Pranidanaat – all 4 words are technical terms and all 4 need a clear new definition. Samadhihi means falling in tune with the origin – aadi – the original source. Sama means falling in tune or vibrating in the same frequency. Aadi means the origin. Samaadhi means vibrating in the same frequency of origin from which you originated vibrating in the same frequency. Please understand, when you start a spiritual practice, slowly you divert from the original mood. I have seen people diverting from the original mood. When they start, the inspiration they have, the energy they have and how they divert. In any plane, if you get back to the origin state, fall in tune vibrate in the frequency of the origin, you will achieve the success. In any plane. Here, originally you are the leader. It is you who decided to play the game of life by expanding yourself. Getting back to the origin-al leadership quality. The origin-al state of leader is what I call Samadhi. I am translating the word Samadhi with an active state of spirituality. I am introducing active spiritualism to the world. spirituality which makes you alive. That is the reason I am translating this word as getting back to your original leadership quality. How to know if you are progressing and achieving Samadhi, is to see if you have become leader. If you have become ……..In your breathing space, you are a leader , in your whole life you have become … Samadhi means not just having altered state of consciousness, achieving the original leadership quality with which you have happened. Siddhi means ripening, imbibing, achieving. Ripeneing is the best word. Samadhi siddhi means ripening of Samadhi in you or you in Samadhi. Usually Samadhi only can possess you. you cannot have Samadhi. Even ordinary kundalini awakening can possess you, that only can shake you. Samadhi can only possess you. you can only ripen in Samadhi. Samadhi cannot ripen in you. siddhihi means ripening. Samadhi siddhi ishwara pranidanaat. The word ishwara – please understand, why patanjali is using the word Samadhi & ishwara together in the same sutra. He could have just finished without these words. The word ishwara means the ultimate experience expressing in the plane you can relate. Please understand, if you feel you are just body, the energized deity which responds to you in your plane is ishwara. If you feel you are just a mind, the sacred scriptures which puts you in tune with Samadhi is ishwara. If you feel little more than mind incarnation who is in the body, who can just put you in Samadhi is ishwara for you. Understand, Patanjali is using a very powerful word ishwara pranidanaat – by surrending to ishwara, Samadhi is achieved. If ishwara and Samadhi is one and the same, why is he using different words. And he is a very very intelligent man. He knows when to use more words, less words and when not to use words. Especially when using words, nothing like Patanjali. I can say for every master who goes on speaking they lose sensitivity for words including me. I go on & on & on. Soon I will cross number of hours spoken by any master. Because I go on & on & on and everything is recorded. By continuously speaking sometime we lose sensitivity for words. But Patanjali is a grammarian who knows how to use or not to use words. He is using 2 words here – Samadhi & Ishwara. Why should he use the word Ishwara. Understand, surrendering to Ishwara you will have Samadhi. The word Ishwara needs to be understood only then the ripening of Samadhi will happen in you or you can ripen in Samadhi. Ishwara means which leads you to Samadhi. If you are in the very gross plane, most of the time you are in the idea or feeling connected only to the body then the energized deity is ishwara for you. spend all your time worshipping taking care of that deity. So that the idea that I am the body slowly moves out. Very beautifully Ramana answers this when someone asks how worshipping a stone leads to Samadhi. He says it is much better than worshipping your own body! As long as you have the illusion & delusion that you are the physical body, better to have the ultimate state of consciousness also identified with a physical statue. So that the shift in the consciousness in the first step starts happening in you. that is the reason still in the modern era I go on inspiring and establish temples all over the world. if you are feeling that you are physical body more than 51% of your awareness time – the time you spend in dream state & waking state. For example in a day 20 hours you spend in dream & waking state. In that 20, more than 10 hours you feel you are body, please start with deity worship don’t fool yourself thinking that straight away you will become enlightened. If you are feeling 51% of the time, you are mind. Means all your planning, suffering, joy is all mental – more identity based life not ;physical based, you are running around more for identity protection than for basic need like food, cloth, shelter that does not affect major part of your life, you don’t think too much about that, the physical joy is not major part but you are established in mind and your life is more identity based then understand the sacred truths either listening to masters or reading sacred texts expressed by master that is God for you, that is ishwara to you. Another one thing, I don’t want to translate ishwara as God. God word has been too much loaded and spoilt. Let me retain the words ishwara as pure as possible without translating it into the word God. If your whole identity is based on mind, if you are joy suffering existence everything was on mind then sacred truths, listening from the master or reading of the master’s word becomes God to you, ishwara to you. that is why J. Krishnamurthi says listening is God because all his disciples are mind based, identity based. They are not locked in the body. If you are able to understand J.Krishnamurthti you are already in the mind and not locked in the body. For them shravana - listening is Ishwara. Please understand if you are established in the physical body, then vigraha is ishwara – deity is god. Surrender to deity. Worship, decorate, play around, live. That is why all the people who are connected to ISCON they created 1000s of temples around the world. Because they are people of physical nature. I am revealing important secrets to find out which technique will work for you. people who are feeling connected to ISCON movement will never be able to understand to J.Krishnamurthi and related to listening is God. For them God is Krishna who comes down when they worship him. How many people are liberated thru the Krishna statue by the Bhakti movement, same number of people J.Krishnamurthi is able to liberate just by words!. Different kinds of people – different techniques. J.Krishnamurthi is also right, bhakti movement is also right. Each one caters to different people & different mental set ups. 3rd if you are feeling you are neither body nor mind means you have reasonless suffering, reasonless joy. You are neither in the business of physical joy nor bothered about identity protection, you are searching for something more –being level personalities – means if you have had at least one glimpse of levitation experience or spiritual experience then for you incarnation who is vibrating the same kind of frequency is god. Incarnation, master is Ishwara for you. surrendering the ishwara leads to Samadhi. Now find out which type you are – if you are the type of more than 51% of your waking time you are spending feeling you are body then deity is path for you. Be there till you evolve. If you are spending more than 51% of your time in mental struggle, identity struggle then spend all your time maximum in reading truths, listening to truths. That makes you again & again in Samadhi state. If you are being level person – neither you spend your time feeling your body nor in feeling you are mind. Then master is the solution for you. drop everything and be at his feet. The 4th word pranidaanat – the word surrender needs to be understood. Surrender is misunderstood in the west as becoming slave. NO. pranidanaat is not becoming slave. I want to translate this word as rising to the frequency, falling in tune or feeling connection. Please understand when you start feeling connection, falling in tune you attract that vibration to your vibration. I have seen in my own life. When some devotees bring something with lot of love, it will be very small thing. some how even I cannot resist it. I will just put it in my mouth or put that cloth on my body. when you surrender to ishwara, ishwara cannot resist you. he is not in the control. He is not the decision making authority. When you surrender, you are in tune, YOU become the decision making authority. Surrender is not being slave, it is taking over the power. I am ruled by people who surrender to me. surrender is such simply you fall in tune! Pranidaanat is active surrender. Maybe I can translate the word pranidaanat as active surrender. Passive surrender is always throwing away the responsibility and blaming. One guy asked me once – Swamiji I am going to get married, bless me. I know he was in love with somebody and I asked are you both getting married. He said no. I decided to marry person arranged by my parents. He said no, no, if I go for arranged marriage after the failure I can have at least my parents to blame. But with love marriage I will have no body to blame. Understand many time, you do surrender so that you will have somebody to blame. You are not bothered about the after effect. All you are bothered is that you will not be responsible. No. understand, that is not exactly what I call by the word surrender. I watned to translate the word pranidaanat as active surrender where your surrender is responsible, intelligent, useful surrender. For anything you have surrendered, you should have ripened into that and that should have ripened into you within few years. If you have been few years with me and have become useless then you have surrendered and painted me in you. surrender and make it alive. Let me ripen in you and let you ripen in me. but you do all foolish idiotic things as you want and claim me responsible. Surrender is the most cunning word disciples use to manipulate the master. So the pranidaanat I want to translate as active surrender, responsible surrender. Feeling connected, falling in tune. So fall in tune with your ishwara, you will reach Samadhi. That is the meaning of this whole sutra. Have the active responsible surrender. Fall in tune with your ishwara. Find out which state you are in and surrender to your ishwara. That will lead you to being the leader which is original state of your consciousness and existence. This is the exact meaning of Samadhi siddhihi ishwara pranidanaat! Blessings!
