Title
What Is Identity Crisis?
Description
24th April 2012 morning satsang, Paramahamsa Nithyananda (Swamiji) answers questions from devotees. The first question inquires about the use of astrology for spiritual seekers. Paramahamsa replies that he has found that astrology, properly and soberly practiced, helps devotees to evolve spiritually. The second questioner asks Paramahamsa to explain his term "identity crisis", and requests advice on how to handle this event. Paramahamsa states that having an identity at all -- a persona with which we define ourselves -- is in itself a crisis. Until we identify only with the boundlessness of the universe, we are in a crisis state. We become aware of our crisis when we encounter the teachings of an illuminated being and realize our false understanding of life. At that time, the way to cope with our turmoil is to remain close to our enlightened master: in spite of our panic, we should not run away. The final question asks whether we can become stuck in repeating intermediate visionary experiences; can we fall into a loop and fail to achieve enlightenment? Paramahamsa says that only the experiences we have independently can be repetitive. No experience in the presence of the master is ever the same as any other: each one is unique and can lead us to liberation.
