Predecessors in The Lineage
This photograph is of Mathaji Vibhutananda Puri, who is seated in the same place as The Avatar with the same conch, kamandalu, wooden staff, as the ones in the photo with The Avatar, which were passed on as an inheritance to her successor.
(1917 - 1991) This is a photograph of Isakki Swamigal, a great Yogi and Siddha (mystic expressing Superconscious powers) from Tiruvannamalai (The Avatar's birthplace). Isakki Swamigal lived with almost no food all his life. He was an Avadhuutaa. Avadhuuta is a person who lives with no food, water or clothes. He is the Guru of Mata Vibhutananda Puri, who in turn is the Guru of The Avatar. With him and Mata Vibhutananda Puri, The Avatar explored the great Hindu Science of Vedanta. There was a time in late 1970s and beginning of 1980s, when in the whole district, all hospitals where shut down. Everyone would go to him instead. He would just take mud from the sacred Hill Arunachala, put it in their nose, mouth and ears and tell them to go around the Hill twice ....And the disease would disappear! The local villagers recall that for 3 full years, day in and day out, he made a 'nara mala' – 'garland made of human beings' for Arunachala by sending people to go around the Hill! The whole day, he would heal and send people around the Hill. He stayed in samadhi (restful State of Oneness with the Cosmos) all the time. He was a Mahaan, a great Seer. He was a great tapasvi (one who does intense penance) and a great enlightened being. He would often perform the angapradakshiṇa of the Arunachala mountain (circumambulation of a sacred spot or a deity using the whole body, done by rolling the body on the ground).
