His Divine Holiness in a satsang dated 20 Aug 2020 (15 years later) fondly and vividly explained a most sacred and sweet happening in the tradition of the Guru-Shishya (Guru-disciple) relationship on this day during this event in Madurai.
In the satsang of 20 Aug 2020, HDH explained the deep impact Sri Ramakrishna Mission had in His life during His tireless service in the organisation between 1995-1999. He also recalled that the first ashram He created (in the revival of Kailasa, on the banks of the river Kaveri), He had dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna.
He acknowledged the senior Swamis and brahmacharis of the Ramakrishna Mission who were such high contributors to the objectives of the Mission. HDH specifically cited Swami Kamalatmananda ji and recalled an event that involved him which is this very event on this day - 22 Nov 2005 - a huge meeting organised for HDH’s spiritual talk in Madurai, the town where Swami Kamalatmananda ji was residing.
Here is an account, paraphrasing His Divine Holiness in the above revelation:
The Moola Linga - conscious blueprint of this Kailasa, like Hindu Management, Hindu knowledge, Hindu publication, everything is from Sri Ramakrishna Mission. Forever, me and my sangha will be indebted to Ramakrishna Mission. The level of purity, integrity, commitment, authenticity with which the Ramakrishna Mission sadhus live, is unimaginable. All the best things I have in my life is a gift from Ramakrishna Mission. I feel proud being a volunteer or brahmachari, and a devotee of Ramakrishna Mission (1995 - 1999).
Some of the great Ramakrishna Mission Swamis who inspired Me and moulded My life are Gautamananda Swamiji, Swami Ragaveshananda ji, Swami Kamalatmananda ji, Swami Veethabayananda ji, Swami Vimurtananda ji, Swami Satyagjnanananda ji, Swami Satyananda ji, Swami Ashutoshananda ji, Swami Jnanadhananda ji, and my own deeksha Guru Ranganathananda ji who is a giant and second Vivekananda that Ramakrishna Mission produced.
After I started my own organisation and became a Guru, we had a large satsang in Raja Muthiah hall in Madurai. The entire Madurai had 1000s of posters and flyers distributed for the event. The hall was full and the song to welcome Me was played. A huge throne was placed on the stage. I walked into the hall in my usual humble way. Suddenly I saw a saffron-clad Swami in the audience. I looked deeply and saw Swami Kamalatmananda ji!
I should have actually invited him formally and had a simhasan (throne) for him on stage but I was reluctant about whether he might come if I invite him and even if he comes will he have any disturbance from the organisation’s side, because may not fully agree with the way I am working. I had all these thoughts so I did not invite him.
Swami Kamalatmananda had such Shiva bhakti (devotion to Paramashiva)! He is a real devotee I have seen in my life! His extremely sincere and integrated commitment and the bold and courageous way he used to face media…!
In those days there was a big scandal falsely created by the media that Ramakrishna mission was trying to close schools. Swami Kamalatmananda was heading the T.Nagar branch of the Ramakrishna Mission in Chennai and he handled the media attack with such strength and boldness! He had extremely cool administrative skills as well.
I actually relate with him like a son to a father. He would dictate while I took notes. I literally learnt writing and reading from him! He is a giant!
The moment I saw him, I fell at his feet! His extreme humbleness, he slapped me on the back and said in singular, “I came to see if you are orating well!”
I said, “I cannot sit in front of you on the throne!” He did not agree and said, “You have to sit on stage. This meeting has been organised for the people for your satsang”. I said, “nothing doing” and made Him sit on the throne and sat on His side in a smaller seat, maintaining the protocols of the timeless Guru Parampara, and delivered the whole satsang seated on his side in a smaller seat. This is the only satsang where in my 26 years, I will be on the side seated on a smaller seat and delivering the satsang to such a packed audience!
I told him that not only I don’t have the guts to speak in front of him, I would be doing droha (betrayal) and disrespecting the Guru Parampara (Guru lineage) if I sat on the main throne when He, my Guru, was present in the hall. I may have left the Ramakrishna organisation but I can’t disrespect the Guru parampara. Both are different!
In the satsang itself, I declared that I am an ordinary small boy in front of Swami Kamalatmananda ji. Until this incident many people did not even know I am from the Sri Ramakrishna Mission background!
HDH took the opportunity to strongly recommend to all the youth in India who are between 18 and 25 years to spend a few years in Sri Ramakrishna Mission undergoing brahmacharya training. He explained that if they are able to stay there and win over themselves and take sanyas, great, but at least to try for a few years. He said, “It will give you an amazing grounding in life.”
HDH also revealed, “Nobody can shake me just because of the grounding Ramakrishna Mission gave me.”
This event will stand out forever as a testimony to HDH’s one-liner definition of Kailasa and Himself (discourse on 7 Aug 2020) where He said, “NITHYANANDA AND KAILASA IS NOTHING BUT A LIVING SMALL STREAM OF LIVING ENLIGHTENED MASTERS, GURU-SHISHYA PARAMPARA GONE RIGHT!”

His Divine Holiness Swamiji went on an 'Ananda Ula' (Blissful tour) in various places in Tamilnadu, giving free discourses under the banner 'Kadavai Thira Katru varattum', conducting meditation programs, visiting and energizing homes and visiting temples. People gathered in large numbers everyday to listen to Swamiji's talks on Spirituality and other issues related to everyday life. Following are some of the pictures from the tour at Madurai.
