The Madurai Aadheenam is located in the city of Madurai, which is the capital of the Pandya Kingdom. The Pandya Kings ruled the entire 59 nations that then constituted planet earth, and consequently all the regions which lie in the state of Tamil Nadu, South India. The historical accounts of the royal divine dynasty dates back to the reign of Lord Śrī Rāma, the Divine Incarnation of Bhagavān Śrī Viṣṇu, who was at the same time the absolute Puruṣa, Paramaśiva, and absolute Uttama, operating within the rules of Dharma on the human plane. Śrī Rāma who blessed this lineage by being born as the 62nd King in this great lineage Sūrya vamsha (Lineage of the Sun God) dynasty which bears extensive references in the Hindu Epic Rāmayaṇa (Kishkindha Kandha, 4-41-11, 12); and to 5000 years ago in the Mahābhārat war (a historical war fought in Hindu epic called Mahābhārat) (Karna Parva, verse 20.25) fought by the Pandavas and Lord Śrī Kṛṣna (the Divine Incarnation of Bhagavan Śrī Viṣṇu an incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu ). | The Madurai Aadheenam is located in the city of Madurai, which is the capital of the Pandya Kingdom. The Mother of the Cosmos, “Ādi Śakti” (the original source of energy), the divine consort of Lord Śiva, “Sundareshvara,” appeared in her third incarnation as “Mīnākṣi” meaning ‘“the fish-eyed one’”. Appearing from the pure sacrificial fire, the homa agni, she carried a divine body unlike any other human form, and was endowed with extraordinary yogic powers, infinite qualities and energies. Also named “Thadathagai” (warrior princess)” and “Angayarkanni”, and with a regal upbringing beyond even that of the most valiant of princes, she was the Queen of the blessed Pandiyan empire headquartered at Madurai city, the city created by the divine couple. Ruling for a considerably long period, she elevated the Mīnākṣi Sāmrājya (Rule of Mīnākṣi) with cosmic justice, and extended the divine empire in all directions, ruling with extraordinary administrative acumen. | The Mother of the Cosmos, “Ādi Śakti” (the original source of energy), the divine consort of Lord Śiva, “Sundareshvara,” appeared in her third incarnation as “Mīnākṣi” meaning ‘“the fish-eyed one’”. The very land of Madurai is sacred, for here Sundareśvara incarnated himself in not just one human body, but eleven different bodies at different times. Even in Kailasha, Paramaśiva’s very own abode, the cosmic center of the universe, He assumed and left just one body. In Kashi, Paramaśiva’s city, He assumed two forms. But, in Madurai He assumed 11 incarnations to playfully, casually please, protect, and play with not just His surrendered devotees, but even other species such as animals and birds, for no cause or reason. In that sense, Madurai is considered the rarest of rare energy fields, so very close to Paramaśiva, who has a direct connection with Madurai and its people. The incredible journey into the play of divine consciousness is made possible by the most enchanting recordings of the great ''Paranjyothi Munivar called the “Thiruvilayadal Purāṇam”, the 64 magnanimous Līlas of Lord Sundareśvara.'' | The very land of Madurai is sacred, for here Sundareśvara incarnated himself in not just one human body, but eleven different bodies at different times. The Ancient Kingdom of the Pandyas in South India
The Kingdom of Madurai - Established by Paramaśiva
The Kingdom of Madurai (spiritual, religious and political kingdom) was established in the mists of time by Lord Paramaśiva and later revived by Devī Mīnākṣi and Lord Sundareśvara, who as the deities and incarnates of Śrī Paramaśiva ruled over the Kingdom. Lord Paramaśiva and Devī Parāśakti in their incarnations as “Lord Sundareśvara also popularly known as Chokkanathar” and “Mīnākṣi Amman”, revived the Madurai Aadheenam as an “enlightenment ecosystem” which stands today as the oldest civilisation directly established by Paramaśiva in the world. The Ruling Seat is referred to as “Kailāsonnata Śyāmala Peetham Sarvajnapeetham”.
The Lord of all Lords, Paramaśiva, the One without a beginning or end, the One who is eternal, formless, nameless, and representing causeless auspiciousness incarnated as Sundareśvara - the One who is ‘supremely beautiful’.
The incredible journey into the play of divine consciousness is made possible by the most enchanting recordings of the great Paranjyothi Munivar called the “Thiruvilayadal Purāṇam”, the 64 magnanimous Līlas of Lord Sundareśvara.

Tiru Jnanasambandhar - The Reviver of the Madurai Aadheenam
More than 1500 years ago in the 7th century, the Madurai Aadheenam was revived once more by the famous child-incarnation, Tiru Jnanasambandar, born in the holy town of Sirkazhi (Sembai) in the Chola region (South India). Named by Śrī Paramaśiva Himself, “Jnanasambandar” means the one who has gained contact with the Siva Jñānam, the highest spiritual knowledge, i.e. the knowledge of Paramaśiva. Jnanasambandar’s bio-memory itself was never disconnected from the cosmic consciousness from birth. He, even while living in the body, was widely accepted, recognized, revered, worshiped as an incarnation of Paramaśiva Himself. From the ‘64 leelas’, divine plays of Lord Sundareśvar, one of the divine plays glorifies the acts of Thirugnanasambandar for reviving the “Saiva tradition” by restoring the Madurai Aadheenam. From Thirugnanasambandar the recorded history of this Aadheenam begins. Till the revival of Madurai Aadheenam by Tiru Jnanasambandar, there was no record of its history, though the Aadheenam itself existed much before his time.
As an embodiment of supreme love, He radiated a state of intense ecstatic love of God i.e mahabhava – the “Feeling Connection”, which is the foundational philosophy of Madurai Aadheenam.
Tiru Jnanasambandar taught and transmitted to the world the 5 sacred syllables “Namaḥ Sivāya” – ‘Na-Ma-Chi-Va-Ya”, and emphasized the glory of the sacred holy ash, Thiru Neeru, as well as the greatness of the Tamil language.
Assuming the human body for only 16 years, His mission was to rid the land of Paramaśiva from the persecuting, irreligious Jain tradition that had lost all its sublime spirit, because of the inevitable corruption that ensues after the Living Enlightened Masters leave their body.
The purpose of His divine incarnation was to revive, re-establish the pure enlightenment science of Vedic tradition, “Veda Neri”, which He declared as the only philosophy of the Madurai Aadheenam. The quintessence of the Vedic tradition is to express and radiate “devotion and gratitude” for Lord Paramaśiva.

Guru Maha Sannidhanams of the Madurai Kingdom
In his lifetime, Tiru Jnanasambandar ensured that the legacy established by Paramaśiva was preserved and maintained by His direct heirs and legal representatives - the lineage of Guru Maha Sannidhanams (Pontiffs) of the Madurai Aadheenam.
The Aadheenam’s rare and sacred lineage of Pontiffs has been systematically carried over in an unbroken progression from ages. The chosen emissaries of Lord Paramaśiva and Devī, the Guru Maha Sannidhanams (pontiffs) of Madurai Aadheenam are the direct representatives of the cosmos.
This lineage of Guru Maha Sannidhanams were entrusted with the responsibility of training and grooming the Kings in administration, constitution and governance acting as regents. They also performed the spiritual initiations on the Kings and the citizens of the Kingdom, imparting the enlightenment science to them.

The unbroken lineage of Pontiffs begins from Paramasiva Himself existing till date, with the previous pontiff being the 292nd Guru Maha Sannidhanam, “His Highness Loka Guru Śrīla Śrī Arunagirinatha Śrī Gnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal”, who is from Sirkazhi, Thanjavur Dt (Tamil Nadu, South India). On 27-05-1975, He was coronated as the prince (Perarasar) of Madurai Aadheenam and was crowned as the Great King on 14-03-1980.

Thus, from time immemorial, the Madurai Aadheenam and the Gurus of the branch monasteries functioned in various parts of the world keeping alive the enlightenment ecosystem for the benefit of humanity.

Translation of essential part of the Mother document: Name of the institution – Sri Thirujnanasambandhar Swamigal Aadheenam
During the reign of King Koon Pandiyan, the Tamil saint and nayanmar called Thirujnansambandhar incarnated in Chola kingdom, in the town of Sirgazhi. He attained enlightenment at the age of 3 through the Grace of Devi Adishakti (Divine feminine consciousness) Herself. He also sang the devotional Tamil verses called ‘Devaaram’ in praise of Paramashiva, and received several gifts from Him as a blessing. Endowed with many mystical powers, Thirujnanasambandar also visited many temples of Paramashiva to manifest these powers for the people of the kingdom. He reached the Pandya kingdom. There, he healed the severe fever and bent back of King Koon Pandiyan (“koon” meaning hunchbacked). The King was thereafter called Sundara Pandyan (“Sundara” meaning handsome). Annadāna"Free Distribution of Organic and Vegetarian Food
Annadān or the distribution of vegetarian, organic food, is first offered to the divine, and then shared with all who grace the occasion. It is the principal, social and spiritual service that marks the Hindu tradition.
From the moment of His appointment, HDH provided Annadāna (free food) for lakhs of people everyday in Madurai. On an average, an astounding 125 kgs of rice is cooked each day.
Food is served thrice a day at the Aadheenam premises and is prepared as per the Bhāga Śāstra - the source scripture in Hinduism regarding food. It is the science of cooking as disclosed by Paramaśiva Himself, where he details the best combination of ingredients to be consumed by a being for acquiring a healthy and enlightened body.
The food is prepared to the accompaniment of mantras or kirtans (sacred hymns), infusing positive vibrations in the food that has the power to heal people. Ananda Sevaks, the blissful volunteers of Nithyananda Peetham cook and serve hot, nourishing, organic meals with rice, pulses and vegetables.
On special occasions such as Hindu festivals, the Aadheenam feeds over lakhs of people with this service running 24/7, and is open to all.
This Annadāna service at Madurai Aadheenam has brought tremendous satisfaction among the local people. There was an observable reduction in crime rates, as many of the underprivileged now had access to three square meals a day.

'5 June 2012 - The 5-day Tirujnana Sambandhar Guru Pooja Festival
The festival from 01-05 June at Madurai Aadheenam culminated with a host of religious and service activities in which thousands of people from around the world participated. Tirujnana Sambandar, a 6th-century visionary Shaivite saint, is a reviver of the Madurai Aadheenam.
Well before sunrise, to the accompaniment of traditional nadaswaram music by artistes from Tiruvannamalai, the temple elephant and priests welcomed the two pontiffs of Madurai Aadheenam and took them in procession from Madurai Aadheenam to the Meenakshi-Sundareshwara temple. Entering through the East tower, the two pontiffs and devotees witnessed the auspicious suprabhata seva - gently awakening the Divine couple Meenakshi and Sundareshwara (Devi & Shiva) with music and worship.
This was followed by the re-enactment of the scene of ‘darshan’, where the saint Tirujnana Sambandar receives the divine vision of Meenakshi and Sundareshwara. Worship was performed to over 60 other deities in the temple. The deities of Tirujnana Sambandar and the 63 nayanmars (chief Shaivite saints) were then carried in a palanquin procession through the four streets surrounding the Meenakshi Amman temple. The procession arrived at Madurai Aadheenam where a special pooja (worship) and arati (worship with lamps) was performed. After the daily parartha pooja, a homa (fire ceremony) was performed. The following are pictures from the event.
