Original Verse

आसनं द्विविधं प्रोक्तं पद्मं वज्रासनं तथा ॥ ४ ॥ ऊर्ध्वोरुपरि चेद्धत्ते उभे पादतले यथा । पद्मासनं भेवेदेतत् सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् ॥ ५ ॥


Transliteration

āsanaṃ dvividhaṃ proktaṃ padmaṃ vajrāsanaṃ tathā ॥ 4 ॥ ūrdhvorupari ceddhatte ubhe pādatale yathā | padmāsanaṃ bhevedetat sarvapāpapraṇāśanam ॥ 5 ॥

Translation

Postures are said to be of two kinds: the Padmasana and the Vajrasana. When one places the soles of his feet over the two thighs (crosswise, the right sole over the left thigh and the left sole over the right thigh), this becomes the Padma posture, which destroys all sin.

Joga Pradipika 53

Transliteration

Padmäsana iii vämajaìgha para dachina caraëa | dachina jaìgha vämapada dharaëa ॥ dou hasta jaìghapara kare | sama saréra näsä cakñu dharai ॥ padamäsana yaha näma kahävai | vyädhi roga saba näsa hé pävai ॥ 53 ॥

Translation

Right foot on the left thigh and left foot on the right thigh. Hands on the thighs. Keep the body straight and gaze at the tip of the nose.


Steps/Technique

1. Sit up straight. 2. Place the right foot on the left thigh 3. Place the left foot on the inner right thigh 4. Place the hands on legs.

Primordial meditative posture. According to Shastra Pramana, padmasana destroys all diseases.


Sakshi Pramana Benefits

Increases concentration, doesn't allow for any thoughts to interfere
