A man stands centre-frame wearing a white shawl over bare shoulders and an orange-saffron dhoti, holding a small metal vessel to his mouth with his right hand. In the centre, a person in a flowing saffron/orange robe, with a white head covering and a garland of orange flowers, pours water from a white cup onto the ground near a small wooden boat. Around them, men in white kurtas and white dhotis, some with orange sashes and rudraksha-style necklaces, stand close by. Nearby, a bare-chested man wrapped in a white cloth and a woman in a red sari stand near a small table with offerings, and a woman in a pink sari and a child in a white shirt stand further back. Pink and red buildings and a boat line the background.A man stands barefoot in shallow water at the foot of red brick ghat steps, cupping his hands together in front of his chest as if offering water or performing a ritual gesture. He wears a white collared shirt with rolled sleeves and white dhoti-style cloth. His reflection shows clearly in the still water. A pale cloth bag rests on the steps behind him, and part of another person in dark patterned clothing is visible at the right edge.2013-11-04February 13 20132013-02-13Outdoor scene on stone steps beside a tall plastered wall under a clear blue sky. A shaved-headed man in a white dhoti and white shirt, with a long tuft of hair at the back, pours water from a brass vessel over a dark stone lingam set on a stone yoni-pitha. Two men in saffron-orange robes stand nearby: one on the left with a red-bordered orange cloth, one on the right holding a brass pot. A third orange-robed figure stands at the back. A green and gold draped deity murti with a gold crown and hand raised is on the right, and a blue water tank is visible behind the wall.2007-02-23A man with short dark hair and a red tilak on his forehead performs a ritual at a stone ghat. He wears a red-and-gold sleeveless garment and a long necklace of rudraksha beads, and holds a silver conch-shaped cup while looking down at a small brass deity figure on a silver stand. A silver kalasha vessel with a spout sits above the stand, and silver pots lie in the foreground. Several onlookers in casual clothes stand along the steps behind him, including a man in a white cap and a person in blue jeans. Marigold petals and flowers lie on the steps. The scene reads as a ritual water offering at the river, with the visible cues described only by appearance.A photograph of a ritual at a water tank with a red stone wall behind it. Several men wearing white dhotis and white shirts stand in shallow water, while a central figure in saffron-orange robes stands with a brass pot near a small red cloth and floating red petals. A sannyasi-style figure in orange robes and a shaved head stands beside them holding a vessel, and a striped umbrella is held above the group. Behind them on steps, a crowd of about twenty people, many in white and yellow clothes and some with ID lanyards, watches the ceremony. The setting suggests a water-based purification rite.2010-10-17
