Night-time photograph of a homa ritual under a thatched canopy decorated with banana leaves and palm fronds. A standing figure in full orange robes and an orange head cloth holds a lit ritual flame or lamp aloft toward a fire pit. Seated devotees in orange and saffron wraps, several wearing rudraksha malas, sit in rows with hands folded in prayer. Some participants in white and yellow garments sit near brass lamps and a kalasha-style vessel, while flower petals and offerings are arranged on the ritual platform. Smoke rises through the lamplight.2009-09-26September 26 20092009-09-26September 26 20092009-09-26A night-time ritual held under a decorated canopy strung with leaves and banana fronds. In the foreground, several women in saffron-orange robes and rudraksha malas sit around a white and black stone platform decorated with coloured powder patterns, holding brass bowls and ladles. A standing man in orange robes and a gold necklace, holding a long red cloth, is at the platform's right edge, while a bearded man in orange sits centrally beside brass vessels. Men in white dhotis with yellow shawls sit and stand in the background, and a lit oil lamp glows at the upper right. The setting resembles a homa or puja fire-altar gathering, with offerings and petals on the platform.2009-10-17Outdoors at night, a square mud fire pit bordered in yellow holds a small fire of thin sticks with flower petals scattered around it. A seated figure in orange-saffron robes and an orange head wrap, with a rudraksha mala, pours from a small brass vessel into the fire, a copper pot and brass plate of offerings beside them. Around the pit sit about a dozen devotees in white clothes, some with beards, some with folded hands, watching the fire ritual under a dark tree. A man in white on the right holds a camera-like object. The setting suggests a homa or yagna being performed.2003-03-01 +1 copiesSeptember 26 20092009-09-26July 11 20122012-07-11Night photograph of a homa ritual under a open-sided pavilion decorated with banana plants and leaves. A fire pit with a white square base sits centre, scattered with yellow flower petals and brass vessels. A bald man in orange robes and rudraksha mala sits cross-legged on the far side making an offering, while a group of people in orange and saffron clothing sit in rows with hands folded in prayer. Several people in white with yellow shawls stand or sit at the back, and a tall brass lamp stands at right. Many attendees are seen from behind, and one woman wears orange with a long braid.2009-09-26October 08 20082008-10-08September 26 20092009-09-26Night outdoor homa at an ashram: a woman in an orange sari with gold border stands bent forward at a fire pit, holding a round brass tray and offering into the flames. A crowd sits on the stone floor behind her, many in orange and saffron shawls, some with palms joined in prayer. On the right a bald man in white dhoti with a gold border holds a video camera, and a deity murti with a crown and garland stands on a green cloth-draped stand beside brass lamps. Flower-decorated offerings with yellow flowers sit on banana leaves in front of the fire, with a microphone at the edge.2012-07-11September 03 20082008-09-03
