In the centre, a man in white kurta bends forward toward a seated figure in saffron-orange robes, who is dressed in white and orange and has a marigold garland. A shaved-headed monk in orange and red stands nearby with a camera operator filming. A silver trident stands upright beside a silver altar holding a blue deity murti decorated with orange marigold garlands, flowers and a brass kalasha or vessel. In the centre, a man in a rust-red robe with a long rudraksha mala and a white forehead mark walks along the stone path. Beside him, a bare-chested attendant in an orange cloth carries a brass plate of flowers and leaves, and a white-clad man walks at right near the water. Behind them, a row of people in white and orange clothing stand on the steps, many with hands folded. Several stone shivalinga stand on square bases at left, with a brass pot and kalasha nearby. A tall golden trident is visible above the crowd. The central figure's appearance is not clearly confirmed, so he is described by role only, as a robed devotee leading the procession.2017-05-22 +1 copiesOutdoor photo of a large devotional gathering on stone steps beside water, with people standing in and along the water. At centre, a man in saffron-orange robes wears a long white and red flower garland and a rudraksha mala, holding a small vessel. Around him, people in white clothes with yellow shawls hold long ceremonial staffs and copper vessels, and several figures stand waist-deep in the water holding copper pots and trays with flowers. A group of women in orange saris also holds ritual trays. The scene appears to be a water ceremony at a sacred pond. Some people are seated on the steps behind.2010-01-02January 02 20092009-01-02Outdoor ritual at a red-tiered stepped tank where devotees stand waist-deep in water, splashing and pouring water over a seated figure on an ornate golden throne (peetha) beneath a striped arched canopy with a gold fringed umbrella. The seated figure wears an orange garment and red-and-white flower garlands, and the throne is decorated with orange and red flowers. A man in a rust-red robe stands at the front of the water, leaning toward the throne, while many people in white dhotis and white shirts with yellow sashes surround him, some with bare shoulders. Stone stadium seating rises behind. This appears to be a water abhishekam or purification ceremony during a festival.2010-10-17A large crowd stands on red-painted stone steps beside water, many with hands pressed in anjali mudra. Many men in white dhotis and white shirts, and women in white or cream sarees, stand in rows along metal railings; a few wear yellow or saffron scarves. On the left, men in white holding a yellow-scarved attendant, with a pot of water and garlands of white and orange flowers strung along the rail. Drummers and a horn player stand among them, and baskets of rose petals and marigold heaps sit on the steps at lower right. The scene suggests a ritual gathering, possibly at a riverside or tirtha ghat. No single figure is clearly identifiable as a person.2010-07-25May 29 20172017-05-29
