October 10 20162016-10-10Night-time homa at an outdoor ritual ground. A square fire pit with a bright flame sits in the foreground. Several young men sit cross-legged on ornate green-and-gold pedestals around it, bare-chested, wearing saffron and orange dhotis, rudraksha-style beads and marigold garlands. Behind them a large crowd of devotees sits on the ground, many with folded hands. An elderly man in a saffron robe stands at a podium near a tall decorated pillar, with a green sign reading LIVE on the podium. A green-and-gold garland hangs on the pillar, and a bowl of offerings lies near the fire. No clear appearance-based candidate for a person is distinguishable at this scale, so identity remains uncertain.2016-10-10Night ritual photograph at an open-air pavilion.
