October 16 20072007-10-16Night-time puja at an open stone pavilion with grey carved pillars and strings of small lights overhead. In the foreground, a man in saffron-orange robes and a patterned conical hat sits cross-legged before a brass tray of offerings, pink lotus, a small kalasha and bowls. Beside him, a white-cloth-draped altar holds a deity murti decorated with yellow and orange marigold garlands, a gold necklace and a white turban-like head covering. Behind it, large painted deity figures wear red and green garments, jewelled necklaces and a crown-like headdress, with a red curtain at the right edge. The priest is seated and reading or chanting from loose papers, and brass lamps and vessels stand on the altar.2007-10-16January 05 20192019-01-05October 14 20072007-10-14A seated man in an orange silk garment, bare-shouldered with a gold-toned sacred thread and a bracelet on his wrist, pours a white liquid from a shell-like vessel over a Sri Meru yantra made of pale tiers on a brass tray. The yantra sits on a peetha-like base amid marigold and jasmine garlands and pink petals, with a smoking fire pit and brass vessels beside it. Behind, a shrine holds a deity murti in red and white adornments flanked by brass lamps and flowers. A person's hand holding a brass vessel is partly visible at lower left, and a tiger-striped seat cover sits at the left edge. The description of this photo's appearance-based label: the man's shaved head, orange garment, sacred thread and bracelet are consistent with a person performing the abhishekam, with an unsure identity tag.October 15 20072007-10-15Night ritual photograph with a shaved-headed priest in saffron-orange robes and a saffron head cloth, a white tilak on his forehead and a gold bead necklace, holding a brass tray of yellow flowers and offerings. Behind him stands a dark deity murti beside a red and gold patterned cloth, and banana leaves hang overhead with string lights. Brass oil lamps with lit flames stand in the foreground. At left, a person in white holds a lamp, and pineapples sit in woven baskets at right, consistent with a puja or aarti.2009-09-26October 14 20072007-10-14A homa being performed at a brick-lined fire pit decorated with yellow and red flower petals. A shaven-headed man in saffron robes and a multi-strand rudraksha-style bead necklace with a gold pendant feeds the flames with a ladle-like vessel, smoke rising around him. Beside him, a younger man in white clothing with a yellow shawl sits on the floor among brass pots, a kalasha-style vessel, bowls and trays. Behind, brass lamps stand near a pink and green cloth with garlands, and a brass plate holds offerings. The setting is a tiled ritual space with a pale floor.2009-09-22A man with long, swept-back black hair stands in an orange saffron robe with white tripundra and white arm markings, hands pressed together in anjali mudra, eyes lowered and smiling. He wears a gold rudraksha-style necklace and stands beside a large black stone shivalinga with a pink lotus on top. Behind him are a gilded arch, a red velvet curtain and a black stone deity sculpture. A young person with a red bindi kneels at the base of the linga.2007-11-09A shaved-headed man in orange robes sits with palms pressed together in namaste and eyes closed, a white vertical tilak on his forehead. He wears a rudraksha bracelet on one wrist and a dark wristwatch. Behind him, a framed photo of a smiling young man in orange robes with a garland hangs above a seated deity murti draped in green cloth and decorated with yellow and red flowers. A microphone on a stand, a brass lamp and a plain white cushioned seat sit in the foreground.2007-09-30Photograph of a temple shrine interior with a stone pillared ceiling and red curtains. A man with long dark hair and an orange saffron dhoti stands barefoot on a wet marble floor, placing his hand on the head of a second person wearing a peach-orange shawl with pink borders. A deity murti with a crown and garland stands behind them, with brass lamps and vessels on the floor. Brass kalasha vessels and flower petals are visible. The man's long swept hair, orange clothing and ornate adornments resemble the a person appearance cues, presented here as the priest performing the blessing rather than a confirmed identification.2008-01-17
