Outdoor evening scene at night with a lit oil lamp on a silver stand held by a man in white dhoti and shawl with red-bordered edges and a gold-beaded necklace, performing aarti. In front, a woman in saffron-orange dress with long dark hair and gold necklace stands with palms pressed together in namaste. Behind her, men in saffron-orange robes with rudraksha-style malas and white-clad attendants stand in a dark garden with tropical foliage. Flame and palms are prominent elements.2010-11-21Night-time outdoor ritual at dusk among palm trees. In the foreground a man with long dark hair, wearing an orange-saffron cloth with gold border and a gold-beaded necklace, stands with palms pressed together in namaste. Beside him are several men in orange robes with rudraksha-style garlands, also with hands folded. On the right a man in white dhoti and shawl with a red border holds a lit aarti lamp with flame and is accompanied by people in white. A brass plate with flowers lies at lower left. Behind, devotees in white and red clothing stand and one person holds up a camera. The scene suggests a deepam lamp ceremony.2010-11-21Night outdoor ritual at a dark tree-lined setting with a raised stone platform. A man in saffron robes and gold necklace raises a brass aarti lamp with a bright flame high in his right hand. Beside him, an older man in white dhoti and shirt holds a small brass bell and stands with hands folded. To the right, a man in a saffron turban and rudraksha mala stands with palms pressed together in prayer. Further right, another saffron-clad figure stands in profile. On the left edge, hands folded in namaskar belong to devotees in orange and white. Marigold petals lie on the ground at lower right. The visible rudraksha mala and saffron turban are appearance cues that may suggest a person, but identity is uncertain.2008-12-30January 12 20092009-01-12November 21 20102010-11-21Night ritual outdoors beside a white-wrapped pillar, with a dark stone deity murti visible at the left edge. A priest in orange robes with a gold border and rudraksha malas holds a lit oil lamp, its flame bright against the dark background. Beside him, a younger man in orange with a gold-bordered cloth and beaded necklaces holds a brass tray of flowers and offerings. A third man in white dhoti with a red border and gold chain stands with palms joined in prayer, and more orange-robed devotees stand at the right. Smoke rises from the lamp, and small flames burn at the lower left.2010-11-21Two men stand before a maroon velvet curtain performing a lamp ritual. The man on the left wears a white dhoti-style garment, a gold bead necklace, a gold bangle and white sacred markings on his forehead and arms, and he holds the stem of a silver oil lamp. The man on the right wears an orange turban, an orange saffron-coloured wrap, a long gold bead mala and a gold bangle, and he holds the lamp's bowl with a flame burning in it. He looks down at the flame. The lamp is an oil lamp, and the scene reads as an aarti-style lamp offering on a white floor with a patterned mat at the edge.2010-10-24July 07 20152015-07-07A night ritual photograph in which a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes and a long gold bead necklace holds a silver aarti lamp with a large open flame, performing the flame offering. Behind him a man in white with a yellow shawl stands with palms pressed together in namaste. At the lower left, a seated man in white and yellow holds another lit lamp. Fresh banana leaves and neem leaves hang above, smoke drifts through the scene, and brass plates with yellow flower petals and offerings lie in the foreground. The orange-robed man is a person by appearance: a saffron robe, ornate gold beads and the central role in the aarti, though the appearance is only partly distinctive.2009-09-25October 21 20152015-10-21 +1 copiesJune 05 20122012-06-05A dim stone-walled interior where a ritual is in progress around a brass oil lamp with a large, bright flame held by a bare-chested man in the lower right, wearing an orange cloth over his shoulder. Behind him, a priest in orange robes and a rudraksha mala stands with hands folded. In the centre, a young man in an orange dhoti and yellow-trimmed shawl, with a white tripundra on his forehead, a white cross-shaped mark on his chest, a beaded garland and a gold pendant, gazes down as an elderly man in a green shimmering shawl and beaded headband reaches toward the flame with his palms. Smoky light and a faint wall-mounted image complete the scene.2012-05-18 +1 copies
