At the centre, a gilded ornate ratha/chariot carries a deity murti decorated with garlands, with a red flag on top. A golden ornately carved ratha or palanquin carries a seated figure and a deity murti decorated with orange and white garlands. Devotees in white shirts and dhotis, some with rudraksha-style neck cords, pull the ropes attached to the front of the ratha. Women in white saris and a red-bordered sari walk along the right side, and spectators line the street beneath buildings, shop signs and bunting flags. On the ratha, a figure wearing a turban and ornate garlands sits on a throne-like seat; the appearance is not distinctive enough to confirm any identity, so the person is described by role only.2006-09-24A dense street procession moves past a temple gateway with white paper streamers strung overhead. Crowds of mostly men in white shirts and dhotis fill the road, many raising orange flags bearing a dark blue bird emblem with Tamil script beneath it. On the right, a gilded palanquin or ratha with orange-and-gold draping is carried forward, and a white flag with a blue emblem stands beside it. Painted shopfronts and a tall gopuram line the background.2006-09-24November 14 20052005-11-14A street procession of a crowd of men in white shirts and dhotis packed along a busy town road lined with shops and hanging white flags.
